Hello, I am planning a trip from Minneapolis to Honolulu but am not able to find a round trip booking that works so I am planning to book segments to get us there in a timeframe that works. My question is, if the entire trip is on Southwest but there will be separately purchased segments, will we be able to have our bags checked all the way to our destination without having to retrieve them and go back through security? The plan right now is book MSP to Long Beach, then book Long Beach to Honolulu. Would we be required to claim our baggage in Long Beach or would Southwest check them all the way to Honolulu?

When you check-in at your departure airport go to the full service check-in counter and you can request your bags be checked through to the final destination. This, as you have discovered, is happening frequently with trips to Hawaii. You may need info about the second flight so the bags are tagged appropriately. Give yourself a little extra time to get this done.
