Beach gear??

Can anyone tell me if I am allowed to bring beach chairs/umbrella in place of the 2nd free checked bag?  There will be 4 of us flying and would like to bring 3 chairs and an umbrella in place of the 4 extra suitcases.  Thanks!

Would the items be secured in some way? I don't think I've seen exactly what you are talking about coming through as "bare" items, do you have covers or bags for the beach equipment?

One worry might be if the chairs or umbrella were able to unfold.

stored in a soft sided golf bag and have had no problem. I have found it can be very expensive to rent chairs and umbrellas while on vacation/cruise
