I've seen indiviuals bring the small single alcohol bottle on board in the past. Is this still acceptable?

I can't find it now, but seem to remember hearing that all alcohol consumed on a flight had been to be served by the crew. Could you sneak a bottle on and inconspicuously drink it? Probably, but would you want to risk this happening to you?
Seems like a better option is to buy drinks onboard like everyone else.

I don't know how far back you are thinking, but it is acceptable to bring it through TSA in reasonable quantities but Southwest's policy is that you won't be opening it onboard and has been for some time.

We're all for a good time onboard, but best to buy your alcohol from the Flight Attendants. We do not permit Customers to open their own bottles of alcohol onboard.
