Hi everyone, I have a question regarding baggage. Could I check a beach tent (31.9x5.9x5.9inch) and a hiking backpack as part of my baggage allowance instead of an actual suitcase? We're going to Hawaii next month and am trying to figure out if these would be okay as checked luggage without any extra fees.

For some reason, the pic didn't upload correctly. Here is the beach tent and hiking backpack photos from Amazon though.

The tent looks fine, although I would suggest wrapping some tape around it to hold in the straps. You don't want the straps loose and getting tangled up with anything else. I've seen people check hiking backpacks so it should also not be a problem as long as your overall dimensions L+W+H fall under 62". Again you'll want to keep it contained as much as possible to avoid getting snagged or damaged. Southwest will probably have you sign a damage waiver since neither is a standard suitcase. Have a good trip and report back with how checking the items went.
