Hello. Looking for clarification on the baggage policy for fishing rods. The website indicates a fishing rod holder must be under 3" diameter and 91" length. However general baggage policy indicates that if your baggage is over 62" length it is considered oversize and subject to additional fee. So is a 91" rod holder part of normal luggage or is it considered oversize and subject to the oversize fee?

Do you have any experience with this since you posted quite some time ago?

Thx @DancingDavidE! And here are the specifics about the fees associated with this type of sporting equipment, @TomJ!
"[These sporting equipment items] may be checked in substitution of one piece of the free Checked Baggage allowance for each Passenger at no charge on a one-item-for-one-bag basis. If the item of sporting equipment exceeds 50 pounds in weight or 62 inches in size (outside length plus height plus width), excess weight and size charges may apply."
So it does sound like you can check the equipment but that you will be subject to the fee if the rod holder is over the 62-inch rule.

Sorry I didn’t put the excerpt, there is a different allowance for fishing gear:
- Fishing tackle box and fishing rod, so long as the rod is encased in a cylindrical fishing rod container suitable to Carrier for withstanding normal Checked Baggage handling without sustaining damage to the rod. Fishing rod containers may measure up to three inches in diameter and 91 inches in length.
