We missed out flight connection due to our first flight being late. We were told before leaving the first airport that vouchers would be provided, however, this was untrue and we can’t get anyone on the phone

Did you speak to anyone at the airport when you arrived? That's definitely your best bet. Depending on why the delay occurred your compensation might vary.
Send a private message to Southwest via Twitter or Facebook and ask for assistance. Or call, but wait might be long.

My guess is because of all the weather here in Texas this caused your flight to be late and when flights are late due to weather usually a voucher is not issued since southwest has no control over the weather.
Once travel is completed you can Contact Customer Relations so they can review and see if any vouchers can be issued.
