Food travel

I will be traveling in the next few weeks and when I return I will have several special order deserts. Will I be able to carry them on board along with my carry-on bag?

There's two sets of rules and you'll need to follow both. TSA dictates that basically everything going through security needs to be solid. So if you're dealing with cookies or cakes then you should be ok. If you were considering gelatinous things such as pudding you could be in trouble. Be careful with things that while solid might be filled with a liquid or gel like substance. You can find more information about the TSA rules here: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/food

You also need to consider Southwest's carryon baggage policy, although from my experiences they are much more likely to be flexible and understanding than TSA. You're allowed one carry on bag (small suitcase) and one personal item (purse, briefcase, and most importantly for you, "food containers"). While this is more likely designed to address smaller take-out style containers it seems to indicate you should be ok with your desserts and a suitcase. It's going to all come down to size. If you're attempting to bring on a large, bulky box you might have trouble. If it will go under the seat or take up a reasonable amount of overhead space you should be ok. Smile and be polite to the flight crew and you're more likely to have an uneventful trip.
