Increased prices for nonstop flights

I'm concerned about the big increase in the prices I a seeing for nonstop flights!  They usually cost a bit more than those that had a layover, but now there about 40% higher.  For older folks like myself, it's a real burden since now I am faced with the option of a 10 hour fly day instead of a 6 hour fly day OR having to pay so much more for a nonstop flight.  Southwest has been my favorite and most used airline for 10 years, and I am discouraged by this change.

Non-stop flights are typically the preferred option and that combined with the upcoming travel seasons of winter activities, spring break, and summer vacation leads to high demand. Add in other factors such as rising oil prices and you've got a good recipe for higher fares.  Check out the low fare calendar if you have some flexibility in your schedule, often one day of the week can be substantially cheaper than another.

Fares go up and they also go down.

I am now buying $60 fares that were priced at $155 a few months ago.

Just keep watching.
