Max 8 & Hawaii Service

New Arrival

Anybody know if service to Hawaii is/was dependent on the use of Max 8 equipment.

Flights to Hawaii will use the 737-800 aircraft for now I know later down the road they will use the MAX. Flights to Hawaii won’t be affected.

Used Flightracker to confirm that 737-800 equipment is used for Hawaii service....though didn't check all flights.  Very glad to see that Hawaii was not influencing the grounding question.

Note to Gary that this 25 year LOYAL partron, companion pass holder and A-Lister was changing future reservations were Max equipment was scheduled.  Risk mitigation.

Southwest announced that 737-MAX8 aircraft would eventually be used for Hawaii (along with 737-800s) but as of now none of the aircraft scheduled are MAX. It remains unclear if Southwest has yet received ETOPS certification for their MAX aircraft. The grounding of the aircraft may affect the eventual rollout of announced additional Hawaii destinations and/or expansion of service, but that would be dependant on how long the grounding lasts, and what procedures will be required before the aircraft can return to service.
