Oversized luggage

Trying to bring a 24x36 portrait (properly protected) either on the flight or as carry-on/check at the gate.  Is this allowed?

The stated maximum size of a carry on is 10x16x24.

It's a common occurrence to carry on something larger, including full size suitcases so larger is certainly possible.  Factors such as how full the flight is or if a crew member doesn't want to make an exception to the rule will determine if you are able to successfully carry-on.  My suggestion is to carry on, but be prepared to check the item.  This means make sure it is packed appropriately.  You may want to consider other shipping options if this is something that is a big concern for you.

Ok, thanks.  I'm totally fine with check-in.  I guess it would be no different than traveling with my tri-bike.  odd shaped luggage.
