Anyone think WN will join the Big 3 with their changes yesterday by allowing same-day standby at no extra fare?

Time will tell.
Southwest has allowed it for it's A-list passengers for years.
It does allow gaming by passengers: buy the cheapest ticket and then standby for the flight you really want.

My guess is Southwest is more likely to expand free standby to other people booked on a reservation where one person is A-List, just like they have done with priority boarding.
