SW did not issue the refund. They issued a flight credit despite the Agent stating it would be a refund.

In my view, if Southwest cancels the flight, then there should be an immediate refund. Period.

We had this experience in July. SWA cancelled our flight (inbound plane was delayed nearly 6 hours due to weather at another airport) and automatically rebooked us for 3 days out. We could not wait that long so bought tickets on DL to get home the next day. I had to call SWA (also an issue) and get someone to refund the rebooked flights we obviously cancelled once we found another way home. Most of SWA's ticketing practices seem reasonable to me, but not this practice. It should be an automatic refund when SWA cancels a flight and customer is merely the bystander.
