We kicked off our partnership by reintroducing the official “Live In The Vineyard”-decaled Boeing 737 airplane to our fleet and surprising Customers onboard a flight from Nashville to Kansas City with a live concert performance by ZZ Ward! Over the next several weeks artists will surprise and delight Southwest Customers with exclusive, intimate acoustic performances at 35,000 feet as part of our Live at 35 concert series. When’s the last time you experienced a concert by a hit musician with 137 of your closest friends? During this experience, you may find yourself singing along and clapping with your seat mate; the middle seat doesn’t seem so bad anymore, does it?! We’re also sharing our LUV for music by providing Customers with the Live In The Vineyard Getaway sweepstakes. Customers can visit www.southwest.com/liveinthevineyard between now and March 13, 2013, to enter for a chance to win two roundtrip tickets on Southwest Airlines, two VIP tickets to “Live In The Vineyard,” an exclusive meet and greet with the Goo Goo Dolls and New Kids on the Block, a three-night hotel stay in Napa, California, April 4-7, and transportation to all VIP events. The skills Vanessa has learned at Southwest have helped her create awareness for Rett syndrome as the regional representative for the International Rett Syndrome Foundation. This past season of Live In The Vineyard inflight performances has been my favorite yet! In the past, we’ve had artists like SafetySuit, Mat Kearney, Green River Ordinance, and even Kris Allen perform Live at 35 concerts, surprising our Customers with a live performance at 35,000 feet in the air! This season, leading up to the Live In The Vineyard event taking place in Napa, Nov. 3, we had five Live at 35 performances pop up on flights all over the country. When you think about our airline operating 3,300 flights a day, five inflight concerts over the span of four months may not seem like a lot, which makes it that much more special for those Customers experiencing it firsthand. That’s why we take extraordinary measures to capture the FUN at 35,000 feet, so that we can turn around and share it with all of our Friends and Followers. Each artist adds its own unique twist to their Live at 35 performance, making each one just a little different and special in its own way. Make sure you haven’t missed out on any performances! Check out our featured Live In The Vineyard: Live at 35 Concerts playlist on YouTube. Tell us which concert is your favorite, and who we should get to perform at 35,000 feet next!

Back in August, we were fortunate enough to land, what I would have to say, one of the biggest artists we’ve yet had the pleasure of working with through our Live In The Vineyard partnership. Being the Official Airline of Live In The Vineyard, an event that takes place twice a year in Napa, CA, comes with quite a few perks. Perks even beyond the fact that we get to send Customers and Employees to Napa to be immersed in great food, great wine, and even better music! The perks that I’m talking about, includes exclusive access to work with Live In The Vineyard headlining artists on a variety of activations, not to mention concerts at 35,000 feet in the air!
So, to kick off our fall sponsorship of the event, we had mega superstar Alanis Morissette perform an intimate acoustic set at the Southwest Airlines and Live In The Vineyard VIP event in New York City! Prior to her performance, we had the opportunity to sit down with Live In The Vineyard Cofounders, Claire Parr and Bobbii Hach-Jacobs, for an exclusive interview with Alanis Morissette to talk about her newest album, Havoc and Bright Lights.
Want to Attend Live In The Vineyard?
We can’t keep this great Napa experience to ourselves! Be sure to enter the Southwest Airlines “Live In The Vineyard” sweepstakes for a chance to win two VIP tickets to “Live In The Vineyard” happening Nov. 1-4, 2012; a special meet and greet with Alanis Morissette; two roundtrip tickets on Southwest Airlines; a three-night hotel stay in Napa Valley; and transportation to all VIP events. Visit www.southwest.com/liveinthevineyard to enter; contest ends October 14.

If you asked Ginger why she was named to PRWeek’s Power List 50 2012, she would say it’s because of our People. In the PR world, it is a true honor to be recognized on this list, and Ginger has placed Southwest Airlines as a powerhouse among the ranks of leading corporations such as Google, Walt Disney World Company, McDonalds, Coca-Cola, The White House, and more! “Our People are the ones creating the memories that our Customers tell their friends about,” said Ginger. “And it’s our Employees who display firsthand what our legendary Culture is all about.” Placing 36th on the Top 50 Most Powerful People in PR List is an achievement that is well-deserved, and being the modest Leader that Ginger is, she is quick to attribute her success to the Company to which she has dedicated 22 years of service. When Ginger isn’t leading the Culture and Communications functions for Southwest, she enjoys time spent with her family visiting Santa Fe, catching up with her husband and sons. One son was recently married, welcoming to the family Ginger’s first daughter-in-law. We all have so much to be proud of at Southwest, and Ginger’s public award is a true reflection of the hard work and dedication shown by our 46,000 Employees across the system.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
Nestled in the heart of Downtown Denver lies a Southwest Airlines winter wonderland; from the holiday music to the bistro lights over the ice, to the lighted holiday trees and the Southwest-painted Zamboni, the Southwest Rink at Skyline Park truly embodies the SPIRIT of the holidays.
The above holiday tune rang throughout Skyline Park this past weekend as the Denver Figure Skating Club took to the ice, kicking off our opening day festivities. Rink visitors sipped on hot cocoa from the neighboring Southwest Porch and were gifted with yellow SWA scarves passed out by our Denver-based Southwest Employees who joined the celebration—some even took to the ice in their uniforms! The Denver Figure Skating Club kicking off the opening of the Rink Southwest Employee Erin S. sports a TJ LUV with a member from the Figure Skating Club
Once the skaters finished their performance, the SWA-branded Zamboni cleared the ice and was positioned center-rink for our opening day presentation. Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock, City Councilman Albus Brooks and his family, and Downtown Denver Partnership Vice President of Events Susan Rogers Kark, spoke on the positive effects of the Rink on Downtown Denver and thanked Southwest for our contributions to the Community. Mayor Michael B. Hancock takes a few laps around the Rink
Over the opening day weekend, there were more than 2,500 skaters, a DJ on opening night, 283 kids who skated for FREE during the 12 and under free skate Sunday, and Dueling pianos on Sunday afternoon! Dueling Pianos at the Rink during the opening weekend
Next time you traveling to Downtown Denver, visit the Southwest Rink at Skyline Park, open until Valentine’s Day, for a number of both adult and family-friendly activities. For more information on special events and programming at the Rink, visit www.southwestrink.com.
Have a safe and happy holiday season, and stay tuned for more happenings at the Southwest Rink!

Have you heard? Southwest Airlines is venturing into the music, food, and wine business! Now, before you get too excited, we’re not starting our own SWA band, or having chefs on our planes; we’ll stick to what we know best. But we are the official airline sponsor of Live in the Vineyard (LITV); a three-day event taking place twice a year in Napa Valley. LITV consists of a series of exclusive “winner-only" acoustic concerts, wine tastings, and chef demonstrations; giving event-goers a total immersion in music, food, and wine! To kick off our sponsorship, we held a mini-LITV event at the Southwest Porch at Bryant Park located in the heart of New York City. New Yorkers had a chance to grab a preview of the LITV experience while enjoying an intimate acoustic performance from one of the November headlining bands, O.A.R., along with light food and Napa wines courtesy of ‘wichcraft. As the official airline sponsor, Southwest will fly LITV contest winners to and from the Napa event on a Boeing 737 which proudly displays a Live in the Vineyard decal. This aircraft will be flying across our system during the next month and will offer a spontaneous outlet for exciting artist in-flight events and Live in the Vineyard-inspired ‘surprises' for our Customers. Who knows, you may find yourself sitting next to a pop star! For updates and a chance to win tickets to this exclusive event, visit www.LiveintheVineyard.com to register.

Lights, camera, SWAction! Southwest Airlines hits the big screen tomorrow as the major motion picture Moneyball starring Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, and Phillip Seymour Hoffman, debuts in theaters across the country. The film is based on the 2002 story of Oakland Athletic's general manager Billy Beane's successful attempt to put together a baseball club on a budget by employing computer-generated analysis to draft his players. In the scene when the Oakland A's start spring training, our yellow, red, and white Southwest logo is prominently displayed on the baseball field. You’ll also notice scenes shot at the Oakland Airport, and if you look very closely you may recognize some of our very own Employees from the Oakland Station! The movie premiered in Oakland earlier this week and Southwest Airlines was onsite to get a sneak peek at this amazing film. Whether you’re a baseball fan or a Brad Pitt fan, this film is a must-see and we’re sure you’ll LUV it!

Doesn’t it feel good to be Green? We sure think so! Southwest Airlines recently ranked first among North American airlines and fourth in the world among 65 global airlines in the GREENHORIZON Aviation 2010 World Airline Environmental Rankings for excellent environmental performance and initiatives. Now, that’s something to be proud of! We know we’re an airline, and our business has an impact on the Planet, but we’re focused on efficient operations and keeping costs low; environmental decisions make good business sense! GREENHORIZON Aviation is the world’s leading airline environmental ranking company, providing the traveling consumer information on the world’s greenest airlines. It comes as no surprise that consumers want to spend their money on a company they can feel good about; a company that is doing their part to decrease our footprint on the Planet. The study ranked each airline based on their environmental performance in three main categories: Daily Operational Activities, Corporate Environmental Management Practices, and Corporate Policies/Strategic Planning. For a closer look, visit www.greenhorizon.co Placing first amongst our fellow North American airlines and fourth globally is a huge achievement. Remember the time when you could pull up to the gas pump and two or three employees would run out to service your car? Yeah, I don’t either!
In this day and age, I believe consumers find themselves more taken aback when they receive great Customer Service, rather than receiving none at all. It’s happened to me. I’ve found myself saying, “wow, what just happened? That person was really nice to me.” At Southwest Airlines, our Customers have grown to expect great Customer Service. I’m proud to say, for our Employees, delivering exceptional Customer Service is just what we do!
Southwest recently ranked number four on this year’s list of Fortune’s World’s Most Admired Companies. We can quickly accredit this great honor to our Employees and our legendary Customer Service, but where does this mission of Customer Service stem from? How does one define great Customer Service? As found on the web, Customer Service can be defined as resources that a company provides to the people who buy or use its products or services.
Well there you have it folks; our best resource is our People! Since 1971, the Employees of Southwest Airlines have conducted their business based on good morals. Our President Emeritus Colleen Barrett taught our Employees to live by The Golden Rule:
Treat others as you want to be treated.
Could it be as simple as treating each other with respect, and treating our Customers like Family? That’s where our mission of Customer Service stems from. At Southwest Airlines, providing great Customer Service is more than just our job, it’s our mission!

For the second year in a row, Southwest Airlines ranked among the top 50 US companies on the Corporate Social Responsibility Index (CSRI). Developed by Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship and Reputation Institute, the CSRI ranks companies in seven areas: citizenship, governance, workplace, leadership and performance, products/services, and innovation. In addition to being among the top 50 overall, Southwest Airlines ranked among the top 25 in the workplace category. As the only airline on the list, we’re proud to be in the company of organizations respected for their social responsibility. It’s no secret that Southwest Airlines believes in treating our Customers right, creating the Best Place to Work for our Employees, reducing our environmental footprint, and being a trusted community partner. So, it certainly is nice to have third-party studies proving it! The CSRI study shows how companies’ reputations are affected by public perceptions of performance related to citizenship (the community and the environment), governance (ethics and transparency), and workplace practices. The 2010 results show that many companies are improving their socially responsible practices and the public is increasingly more aware and interested in these efforts. So, what does it mean to be socially responsible at Southwest? As an industry leader, it’s important to us that we provide great benefits and training for our Employees, implementing efficient operations to reduce emissions, giving back to our communities, rewarding our Employees for their commitment to volunteering, and providing excellent Customer Service to our Customers. According to the study, CSR-focused businesses proactively encourage community growth and development, and voluntarily eliminate practices that may harm the environment. For Southwest, that means honoring our triple bottom line: Our People, Our Performance, and Our Planet. Check out southwest.com/cares and read the Southwest Airlines One Report™ to find out more about how we're making a difference.

We are proud to say that The The Landing, our Headquarters' cafeteria, has made the switch to eco-friendly products, and it’s time to say goodbye to polystyrene foam! Did you know that polystyrene foam products take up more than 30% of landfill space around the world? And it’s undetermined exactly how long it takes polystyrene foam to biodegrade, if ever! This is not the impact that Southwest wants our Employees to have on the environment, so with joint efforts between the Green Team, Green Ambassadors, and Eurest Dining Services, The Landing is now free to be Green! (The Green Ambassadors above and the Eurest Staff below) The Landing may have transformed over night, but this effort has undergone a year-long process, making sure our Green efforts remained true to our low-cost philosophy. We finally found ourselves in a place where our Green efforts aligned with our good business sense. Our new eco-friendly products include: • Compostable to-go bags • Compostable paper boats • Compostable corn-based clear cups and yogurt parfait containers • Compostable brown paper to wrap sandwiches and tacos • Potato-based eating utensils Recycling efforts include: • #10 cans, glass jars, and plastic dressing bottles • Fryer oil to produce biodegradable gas • Napkins I know what you’re thinking: corn and potato-based eating utensils? No, the cups do not taste like popcorn, but because they are made of these compostable products, they will break down much faster, leaving more room in the landfill for unfriendly products. This is an exciting step toward a Greener future for the Employees of Southwest!
