SMF to SDF is connectable with MDW, PHX, or LAS or STL. Best combination is 1071/2771 going east and 2541/2398 going west in terms in time from first departure to final arrival.

Louisa,
Don't hesitate to let the great staff at the departure gate and/or on the plane know that you do have a fear of flying. They will look for an opportunity to help
make it easier. I would also try to get to the airport with more time prior to departure than usual. Also check in online as close to departure time as close to possible the day before your flight. This will be especially important on your return flight. But take time to talk with the great Southwest employees when they are free before boarding.

With Southwest's great 7:35 AM Oakland to Dallas one-stop it's scheduled
length with a stop is only 55 minutes longer than the other Dallas-based
airline's non-stop and after all fees can do the round trip for $185 and change instead of $217 on the other Dallas-based airline for an early January trip, Lisa. Southwest will allow you to board your return if you don't take the going something the other Dallas-based airline won't allow you to do.

There is a link on the side of this blog to a great flight tracker site called Flightaware. If you go there and you do know your flight number(s) you
can key them in track a flight window. Let way your flight number was 1783
Just key in SWA1783 for the flight number when the information loads it will tell you which type of 737 last flew that flight number. Unless there is a last minute change it's a pretty good guide. There are also some sites that list the fleet of Southwest by delivery date if you know the Nxxx number. 737-700s are 1997 and newer planes. 737-500s are either 1990, 91 or 1992 planes.
737-300s range from 1984-1998. Source: airfleets.net

For Northern Californians you have two great one-stops (one direct, one connecting) from Oakland to Dallas in the four hours plus mark. How about one of those for Sacramento to Dallas. Thanks.

I'm a subscriber to the Southwest Airlines Google News and Web Alert. Google has added a feature that tracks blog as the well as news site. As a result I'm now getting e-mail alerts when comments are added to this blog just by subscribing to "Southwest Airlines" as a topic on Google News. I was going to suggest that you add an e-mail feature when someone posts a new comment to a "thread" that you posted on but it seems that Google doesn't make that necessary. Keep up the good work.

Get price from SMF to DAL, can we trim the eastbound time down from 7 hours and 40 minutes though. Be open to connecting 2 stops that run through PHX, ALB, or ELP that may take less time. Thanks.

Not only does Shamu visit Sacramento on my birthday but Boeing delivers to
PHX as well. When Shamu was landing in Sacramento your brand new bird was already 40 some minutes out to Boeing Field. Someday I'll ride in that bird just don't know when yet. Maybe on Dec 8th from Las Vegas to Sacramento.

Yesterday was my 40th birthday, thank you for sending Shamu I (334) to Sacramento as Flight 289. It was great to see your first special plane come in. It must be really cool for a child who has gone to Sea World and is waiting
for their plane to pull to the gate and looky here a plane that looks like Shamu.

Looking forward to more flight plans from SMF to DAL then the one that is currently there. There could be some good connections using PHX and LAS with a little fine tuning could set up for some great connecting two stops that beat the current connecting one stop that is currently listed.
Examples: 999/31 PHX/2 has very tight 30 min connection.
2456/2399 has a 25 min connection.
With some fine tuning you could give SMF about 8 good plans. Go Garage-O-MIzer.

I'm glad, if the Baltimore Sun article is correct, that it appears that the
results from the San Diego project appears that Southwest performs
better under the open seating envirnoment than assigned. I still hope that
it stays that way. If low-cost travelers still want their assigned seats, then they
can use the New York and Atlanta based low cost carriers. Keep open seating. Also congratulations on Southwest getting exposure on CNBC in the
New York Stock Exchange's latest TV ad. Also congratulations to the Betancourt family on their nationally covered new addition to their family.

I think most of the current interest in sports in Detroit is with the Tigers (who play the Oakland (another great Southwest city) in the ALCS. And also with
the University of Michigan Wolverines who only need about three teams ahead of them to get upset and a win over Ohio St to have a shot at the BCS Championship game.

In response to Kevin's question about LUV stock, LUV closed on Friday
in the mid-16.60s. The stock did open a dime higher at 8:30 AM Monday
(All times CT) and hovered a while before moving to the mid-16.90s in
the 11-12 AM area. (this is in response to Congress passing
the Love Field legislation). LUV stock did close at about 16.87 which was
a good 20 some cent gain. On Tuesday the stock challenged the 17 mark but couldn't hang on. With regard to the Passenger numbers, the one thing
that isn't released with the traffic information is how much revenue is being generated. What was the mix of fares behind the revenue passenger numbers. Traffic statistics do not show how many cents per revenue passenger mile was being generated. There was a built in expectation that the load factors would remain solid. But I think Southwest did have more fares so the number of cents per revenue passenger mile could have been a bit soft. But we will not know that until Southwest reports its earning in mid-October. The investor relations department has the exact date. Southwest always reports before the market open (not after the close)
of the date listed. There was also a statement made earlier this month that
LUV's revenue for the third quarter of '06 was going to be up less than 10
percent than revenue for the third quarter of '05. I think that this statement
is keeping a lid on LUV stock short-term.

Earlier today Flight 8503 came from Boeing (BFI) to Phoenix (which I'm assuming to be the delivery of N256WN). My question is did N256WN
leave PHX 12 minutes later as Flight 8692 or was 8692 a different 737-700
coming to Dallas?

Next summer you may want to consider bidding out to the Bay Area (OAK or SJC) they have some great r/c facilities and you don't get the TX humdity. One of them is near Livermore and can be seen from Interstate 580. Another one if found near Ione near Hwy 104 (SMF is the closest SWA airport) for this facility. Given the fact that Southwest families get to fly free, don't limit yourself to Texas for your radio-controlled piloting needs.
