Schedules and routes often change when the schedule is extended so you would need to wait until that happens. THere's no exact date for the June 2018 schedule to be released yet, but I would guess late September or early October. You can check this page for dates: https://www.southwest.com/air/flight-schedules/index.html

If you're booking the flights with points, the points would return to your RR account and could be used later to book flights for anyone. If you pay cash for the flights and then they cancel, only the passengers from the canceled flights can use the funds.

If the companion pass holder does not not board the flight, Southwest will ask the companion to get off the flight. If you're not sure you're going to fly you might want to consider a backup plan for your companion.

What makes you think this is a scam? It's not explained really well by Southwest, but does work as intended, no scam here. You buy it, don't have to worry about when you check-in and can print your boarding pass anytime within 24 hours of the flight or just show up and get your boarding pass at the airport.

From https://www.southwest.com/air/flight-schedules/index.html "We are currently accepting air reservations through April 6, 2018. On August 28, 2017 we will open our schedule for sale through June 1, 2018. This date is subject to change! Please check back frequently" Based on that, I would suspect a late September or early October extension that would cover June 2018.

Travel funds are not automatically applied to purchases and not tracked anywhere in your account online. It's up to you to track them and apply them to purchases. After selecting your flights online find the "Do you want to apply travel funds?" section of the checkout screen. Put in the confirmation number and passenger name of the canceled reservation and apply. If the same passenger is named on the new flight, the credit will be applied. Travel funds can be used for travel that completes within one year of the original purchase.

In my experience, if passenger asks either a gate agent or a representative at the check-in counter before taking the first flight, they would reroute the passenger if that's an option. Some originating cities might not have another route available. Curious if others here can share their experiences.

Baggage counters open at least two hours before the first flight of the day (Southwest's policy is to allow checked bags up to three hours before a flight). If you're not on the first flight and not planning on getting to the airport six hours early you'll be fine.

I don't know about the HOU flights, but here is some info about the switch from MCO to FLL Beautiful Aruba also gets some attention in March, when we shift our Aruba-Orlando nonstop to our digs in the new Ft. Lauderdale International Terminal! The new Aruba-Ft. Lauderdale daily roundtrip will not only offer South Florida a new way to get to the Netherland Antilles, it offers a consolidated, single-terminal international experience for Southwest Customers from elsewhere in the U.S. And Southwest is growing our international footprint from Ft. Lauderdale quickly—Aruba will be the 10th international destination served from this gateway. Aruba also has a PreClear set up thanks to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection so it makes connecting back in the states a breeze since you arrive as if you’re a domestic traveler.

Yes. Using the confirmation number from the canceled flight, you can apply the price paid towards another flight later on. You must complete travel within one year of the purchase date of the reservation you canceled. If you purchased the EarlyBird Check-In option you are better off changing (not canceling) the reservation. Change it to a date far in the future for a similarly priced flight (any flight will do), then change it again once you know your plans. If you cancel a flight with EarlyBird you lose the price paid for EarlyBird. Best wishes to your family

Holiday season flights definetly fill up fast and have a limited number of Wanna Get Away fares. Southwest does occasionally make lower fare buckets available again closer to the date, but it's not likely considering demand for flights is extremely high now and they can sell tickets at higher fares. Sadly, you might be out of luck on those dates, but never hurts to keep checking.
