No, a car seat isn't required. You might choose to do so, and I actually recommend this alternative harness that is approved by the FAA which will be much easier - especially if you wouldn't otherwise be carrying the car seat onboard: https://www.southwestaircommunity.com/t5/Family-Travel/CARES-harnesses/m-p/75683 Above two years old the children will have a ticket, if you have a ticket you are required to sit in a seat during take-off and landing (that's FAA, not just Southwest), and it is recommended to be seat-belted at all times in case of unexpected turbulence. The FA may have varying attitude for him to sit on his aunt's lap during the flight (other than take-off and landing), that's up to you but you'll be reminded about the chance of unexpected turbulence. In that case at least you'll have a seat for him to provide more space.

I understand what you're saying. I know that you cannot use travel funds or vouchers to purchase EBCI because EBCI exists as a profit center for Southwest, but I have no idea why Southwest won't allow the use of PayPal. This forum is customer-to-customer, so I'd recomend you contact Southwest directly with your concerns. I doubt you'll receive answers to your questions, but your suggestions will at least be noted.

I totally agree with you; excuse after excuse and constant neglect or concern for the passengers. However, don’t be surprised with the gooey responses from people who don’t speak up regarding lack of customer service from a company, and offer some shallow advice.

@misstiff2390 I don’t think it will hurt telling the crew about your fear. This way they can keep an eye out for you. Keep in mind that this comes up on a regular basis. The crew is highly trained and capable to handle most situations. They probably spend more time in the air than on the ground. My best advice is to keep yourself busy during the flight. Find someone to talk to, book to read, work on a work project. Good luck on your flight, and remember that you are safer in the air than you are on the freeway.

@elijahbrantley wrote: Hey hey! What @chgoflyer said. I actually had to read the family boarding policy, and it’s rather vague. It says “An adult traveling with a child six years old or younger may board during Family Boarding.” This caught me off guard because (as stated), I see whole families get on together all the time, and it seems to be largely allowed. It’s not uncommon to see one youngster, the parents, and their grandparents board during family boarding. Personal opinion moment: as much as I like SW boarding, this is one area that is not that great. If the policy were enforced as it reads, it could make family boarding difficult, even if sitting together is not important. A while back, there was a brief period of strict enforcement re: not allowing adults in addition to parents to board with the family, following an incident where a gay couple were denied Family Boarding (the couple wanted to board with a grandparent as well). I still frequently see social media posts from someone upset that their grandparents (aunt, uncle, etc.) couldn't board with the family at Family Boarding. Which is how it should be, IMHO. Much like Preboarding, Family Boarding has become somewhat of a free-for-all. If you're the unlucky one who -- despite purchasing EarlyBird Check-In -- has a B or later boarding position, you suffer. Admittedly, since seat-saving is allowed, it's ultimately not that different really whether the OPS agent enforces policy strictly or loosely, but I do think that consistency would help avoid customer anger and stress. Southwest's boarding system certainly has it's challenges.

Be aware that you also choose if your ticket remains refundable or not. "Fully refundable" fares on Southwest become non-refundable if you make any change to the itinerary at any time. Never change, always cancel and rebook any "refundable" fares, in order to keep them refundable.

Hello @Okida,
Thank you for sharing your story with the Southwest Community. On behalf of Southwest, I'm truly sorry for the way this situation was handled. We should have taken time to explain the boarding process to you if you weren't familiar with it. We do board differently than other airlines, and I'm sorry that instead of offering to help, we left you confused. One of the things we try to focus on is providing Hospitality to our Customers, but I can see that in your situation we missed the mark.
I hope that you'll give us another opportunity to serve you. I am very confident that we can do a better job and provide the kind of experience that you deserve and expect. Sincerely, we thank you for the feedback so that we can make sure we're training our Employees to handle these situations better in the future.

@latoyah2323 wrote: Why would SW consider a 12 year an adult??? Every 12 year old doesn’t mature as fast as some may. You should really change your policy when it comes to UMs Southwest does not consider a 12-year-old to be an adult. They simply do not allow children 12 or over to travel as an unaccompanied minor ("UM"). The ultimate responsibility for a child lies with the child's parent or guardian. If a parent/guardian does not feel safe allowing their child to travel by themself, then they should travel with the child. For what it's worth, I made frequent trips on Southwest by myself when I was 12 and lived to tell about it.

The idea of putting the disabled at the back is not a good solution. The flight attendants usually sit in the front. If you put a handicapped person in the back and there is an emergency to exit the aircraft the flight attendants are around at the front to help them off. If they are in the back it may spell disaster.. Putting restrictions as to where they can sit is put in place. (No exit rows). Some people may be taking advantage of the pre boarding rule I agree but in my experiance (and I do fly a lot) I do not see that many taking advantage. I even have friends who can claim a "Medical" issue and they prefer boarding with the normal group because they do not want to be "pointed at".

It's always frustrating when you lose something. If it was found by or turned into Southwest, they generally do a pretty good job of reuniting lost items to their owners, but it can take time. Most smart phones have a "find my phone" feature, have you tried locating it? Also, is her camera or gallery app connected to the cloud?

Hi all,
Apologies for the confusing situation. Here's some info to help clear it up.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Dominican Republic officially released the bulletin regarding the tourism fee effective for tickets issued on/after April 13 and for travel on/after April 25. Prior to the official bulletin, the fee was collected from the passenger at the airport upon arrival in DR. As of April 25, Southwest began collecting the fee in the price of the ticket.
