@AN90 wrote: Thank you! So if I check in 24 hours in advance on my phone, could I wait until I got to the airport to print my boarding passes from the kiosk at the airport? Or is it better to go ahead and get those beforehand? I will be checking bags (no carry ons), so I have to go to the counter anyway. There are 4 of us traveling together, and I will be printing all the boarding passes. Yes you can check in from your phone and the agent at the ticket counter (or the kiosk) can print off your boarding passes for you while checking your bags. -Blake

@AN90 Once checked in you can print your boarding passes at home or they can be printed at the airport free of charge. If your not checking bags bags I recommend printing ahead of time that way you can skip the check in counter all together and head straight for security. Hope this helps Blake

@AN90 First off welcome to Southwest Airlines! you can check in on your phone (via the SW mobile site or mobile app) or laptop which ever is easier for you. It’s best to check in at exactly 24 hours before (or as close as possible) to get the best boarding position. If you check in on the app and want to print your boarding pass later you can always check in again from a computer later and it won’t hurt your already reserved boarding position. If you don’t want to print your boarding pass you can always take advantage of Mobile boarding which I find very easy and convenient to use. If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask! Hope this helps Blake

@collshan Sorry to hear your flight was affected by a schedule change. I recommend you reach out to Southwest by the Live chat option on the Southwest app or you can reach out to southwest at 800-435-9792 and one of the representatives would be glad to assist you. As @SWDigits mentioned your original flight was probably affected by the ongoing MAX cancellations. hope your able to get a more desirable itinerary without any trouble Blake

@vbkelly56 sorry to hear you had had a long hold last night. I believe the reason the hold times were so long had to due with the weather in Texas lots of flight delays and cancellations on top of the MAX 8 cancellations which means lots of phone calls. Hope you got through and we’re able to get things changed Blake

From what I have seen here in the community it looks like they are canceling flights about 5 days ahead of time. I know Southwest announced the MAX would be out of service until at least the end of May so I’m guessing they are working through the schedule and canceling those affected flights as soon as they can so you can get rebooked on an alternate flight. Being that your aircraft type changed I’m guessing they have swapped the plane in hopes that they won’t have to cancel the flight. The last minute cancellations you are seeing probably have to do with weather or last minute swaps of planes or crews. I recommend watching your email as that will be how they let you know of a cancellation and you can also check your reservation on the SW app in case there is a change made to your flight. -Blake

Just to add to what @TheMiddleSeat said While your plane may not come from Houston your flight crew could be coming from Houston and the weather has been rough here in Austin and Houston yesterday and today so if that flight crews flight gets canceled your flight would be affected. Also airlines have aircraft swaps so it may not show Houston on the flight path but it could still come from Houston. -Blake

@tmleach I believe since one of the kids are considered a YT then you would not have to pay the UM fee the YT (13 year old sibling) would be the responsible one. If you are not comfortable with the 13 year old taking care of the sibling and you want to pay for the UM service for the 10 year old you can always book them separately and pay the fee. You should be able to get a gate pass at the ticket counter just be sure to allow a little extra time since you will all go through security and it may take a few min to get the pass. Hope this helps! Blake

@chgoflyer wrote: Yes, that is true. Southwest reuses the positions of passengers who have been checked in and then cancel or change their flight. Those positions then go to the next person who checks in manually. This allows people who have not purchased EarlyBird Check-In, for example, to leapfrog ahead of those who have paid the extra fee. It's an unfair practice and, as I have stated before many times, is something that I believe Southwest would do well to discontinue. That said, there is no indication that Southwest will end this practice anytime soon. It's just how it is. I think one reason they reuse positions is they don't want to make a D group (I feel that's what would happen if they didn't reuse numbers) because after all some people don't know the ABCs as it is now and if they add group D those confused people would be even more confused. I think it would be nice if people got pushed forward like if A18 cancelled the A19 person would be A18 but that would be complicated having to notify people hey your boarding position changed. I agree people who check in late shouldn't be rewarded because someone else cancelled.

@sarahb3589 sorry to hear of your flight troubles. As you may know the MAX 8 groundings have made travel rough lately. Because the grounding of the MAX is out of the Airlines control I’m not sure they will be able to do much in terms of compensation. A 6 hour arrival delay after a flight cancellation is not as bad compared to some others who have had a day or days later arrival I know it’s inconvenient but it could be worse. If you would like to discuss possible compensation with Southwest I recommend you reach out to customer relations at 855-234-4654 Monday as the agent suggested over the phone but there are no guarantees. Hope you make it without any other flight delays! Blake

@DancingDavidE wrote: @chgoflyer wrote: Ugh. I can't believe Southwest let this happen again. Was it early in the year last year too? I feel like it was also at an "obvious" stage of the year when many people won't have earned it yet. This would be disastrous at the end of the year when many people are close and may make decisions based on seeing that email. I got one of those error emails back in January 2017 people were angry then since people thought “maybe they were helping me out since I was so close to earning the companion pass”

I believe the terms of that offer say to allow up to 6 or 8 weeks to get the companion pass as well as the bonus points. if it has been more than that amount of time I recommend you reach out to Chase so they can look in to your case. hope this helps Blake

Just to add to what chgoflyer said if you are booked on a 1 stop or 2 stop no plane change you will only get 1 boarding pass so if that plane is swapped and you have to board a new plane you would board first (before or right after pre boarders). If its a scheduled route like LAS change planes in PHX then on to MKE then you would get 2 boarding passes and would board at the appropriate time with that flights boarding position as mentioned above hope this helps Blake

@AaliyahS788 It's currently unknown when Southwest will hire more FAs. the best thing to do is keep watching the careers website and you can also sign up for email alerts there as well. @patnshan Unfortunately until the admin approves the photo I wont be able to see what the error is on the photo. Is this a UM, buddy pass, or any other non rev booking? Is your flight more than 36 hours away? If your reservation is not a non rev and it is more than 36 hours away I recommend calling reservations at 800-435-9792 and they would be glad to assist. My last guess is maybe your flight is in jeopardy of cancellation because of the MAX grounding so maybe they don't want to sell the EB for a flight that could be canceled (this guess could be way off and your flight may not be affected at all) Hope this helps Blake

@TheJules2019 Personally I think an hour and a half should be fine especially if your not checking bags. If your checking bags it could be cutting it close depending on the line there and the line at security. You might give yourself an hour 45min to be safe though if checking bags however I have made it in an hour and a half in Detroit just fine (with pre check though). -Blake

@mwittydenver Travel funds can only be used for flight purchases and can't be used on things like EB or upgraded boarding. Just remember your travel funds must be used by the expiration date which is 1 year from the original flight purchase and those funds are only good for the ticketed passenger(s) (funds are non transferable) Hope this helps Blake

@eacurtis First off welcome to the A List (almost). Unfortunately I am not aware of a way to get a flight to post early so you can have the A List for the return flight. The first year I reached A List I was in this same boat and I called trying to see if they could split up my reservation in to 2 one ways and the rep told me she was not able to (you could call and try in case they can now). In my case I just bought the EB for that return flight. This experience taught me to book one way flights should I lose A List one year and re earn again so when I hit 25 I get every flight after that as A List again. My other idea would be to cancel and rebook as one ways but since your flight is so soon the price has probably increased a good bit and wouldn't be worth the extra money just for the few A List perks. Hope this helps! Blake

@emcadam2 With boarding passes you can do a couple of ways 1. You can take a screen shot of the boarding pass (you would need internet for the min it takes to check in and take a screen shot) at the airport all you would do is pull up the screen shot. On the app there is also a save to photos button which works too and after you save it you wont need internet again. 2. You can get a printed pass at the airport for free. With reusable water bottles you can absolutely bring an empty bottle though and re fill it after security i see a lot of peoe do it because airports are a little expensive.

@emcadam2 First off welcome to the Southwest Community! I know this new adventure may be seem stressful but it's actually quite easy and after you do it for the first time alone you might find it fun and may be the next frequent flier. First with the drive feel free to take it slow slow don't rush before heading out make sure you have everything (chargers, ID, all the clothes you will need, and whatever else you may need) some make a check list ahead of time so when it comes departure day they aren't stressing do I have this or that and making the list day of could stress a person out which is why I say do it ahead of time. Hotels are an easy process you just show your ID and give a credit card or debit card for incidentals and the room cost if it's not prepaid they will hand you the room key and you will be on your way. Now for the flight with Southwest things work a little differently than other airlines. Southwest doesn't have assigned seats it's an open seating policy meaning you can choose any open seat you would like. How do you get the best chance of a window or aisle? Well you will want to check in as close to the 24 hour mark before your flight so if your flight leaves Monday at 1pm well you should be on the app or southwest.com at 12:59pm on Sunday so as soon at the clock strikes 1pm you can hit check in. At this point you will be given a boarding letter (A, B, or C) and a number (1-60) this tells you which group you board in And what position in line. Bags fly free on Southwest 1st 2 checked bags fly free (weight and size restrictions apply). Some people will buy an add on service called Early Bird check in this will automatically check you in ahead of the normal check in (36 hours before your flight) buying EB allows you to check in at your leisure So you don't have to stress about being online at exactly 24 hours before your flight. The service is between $15 and $30 one-way. You should still check in to obtain your boarding pass. day of departure you will want to arrive at the airport early it's recommend you show up 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before an international flight. This will allow you time to check bags get your boarding pass if you don't already have it and proceed through security. Security is very simple you hand the TSA agent your ID and boarding pass once he hands it back to you the. You proceed to the bag screening. If you have food or electronics bigger than a cell phone then you should remove them and place them in a bin. If you have liquids you are allowed 1 quart size clear plastic Ziploc bag with up to 3.4 ounces of the liquid. You also will have to remove your shoes. Once you get done with security you can go to the gate or grab a bite to eat. If going to the gate I check the departures board just in case there's a gate change. if I go to eat I would check the board after eating. boarding starts 30min prior to the flight departure so be sure your at the gate on time. There are 3 boarding groups plus a medical pre boarding and family boarding which goes in this order: pre boarders, A group, Family Boarding, any A Listers who didn't get an A boarding pass, and anyone with an XT stamp would board then, B group would be next and last but not least the C group. For the flight I recommend having some kind of entertainment to keep you occupied and keep your mind off of flying such as music a game on your phone or simply a book. Reminder your phone must be in airplane mode at all times during flight. Once airborne the flight attendants will come to the cabin offering some kind of snack such as pretzels and offer you a drink feel free to get one if you would like. sodas, coffee, and water are free alcohol beverages can be purchase for an additional fee. You could also try to make friends with your neighbor in your row and maybe that would help you ease your fear (some people like to talk others not so much). You could also take a nap and you will be at your destination in no time. Also if your in the A group or low to mid B group you should be able to get a window or aisle so pick your favorite I go towards mid cabin myself for the best selection. Do take your time as I said before don’t rush. Want to save time download the Southwest mobile app where you can get a mobile boarding pass which makes life easier than the paper pass and you can also check flight status and gate information right from the app. If your not checking bags you can skip the ticket counter with the Mobile boarding pass. don't have a full water bottle in your carry on bag as you will be stopped by security you can get a water after you are past security. Hope this helps! Blake

@LoveSpring Being that this is a customer to customer forum it’s not likely that you will her from Southwest here. for your protection I HIGHLY recommend you edit your post to remove your phone number and email addresses so this information doesn’t get in to the wrong hands. my best advice for you is to take a look at the Southwest careers website where you can create a profile and when an opening for FA opens up you can submit your resume but southwest doesn’t accept applications until a job opening is posted to be equal to all. -Blake

@mdomenici I’m sorry to hear your flight was canceled and you were not notified until the last minute. There are many factors that could have caused the late cancellation such as weather, a crew who timed out, or the aircraft they had for you may have had to go out of service. I know cancellations are not fun. I recommend you reach out to customer relations at 855-234-4654 so they can look in to your experience and see what happened and they can look in to possible compensation. however since this is a customer to customer forum you won't find the compensation here that you are seeking. -Blake

Hopefully the MAX aircraft will be fixed and back in the air by then and flight cancellations will be minimal. If your flight were to be affected (delayed/cancelled) the airline would send you an email letting you know. If they cancel your flight they would rebook you on the next Southwest flight. Southwest doesn't partner with any other airlines so they won't book you on say united if they cancelled your flight. Hope your flight goes smoothly! Blake
