@l13hudson wrote: I fly with SWA every week for work. Always have my IPad and a bottle of water in hand each flight. Was told today I had to put my iPad away for takeoff and landing. Found that odd as I always have my iPad out. Anyone else experience this before? Not a huge deal, just annoying that after 65 flights so far this year and counting, this was a first for me. A-list Preffered Memeber (8 years now) Companion Pass Holder I'm not sure why you were told that. Southwest allows passengers to use small portable electronic devices such as an iPad (those lighter than 2 pounds) gate to gate, including during takeoff and landing. After the FAA updated its rules regarding electronics in the cabin back in 2013, Southwest even promoted this fact as a benefit of it's satellite-based wifi service. Details of the policy are included at the back of the Southwest Magazine. That said, passengers must also obey the directions of cabin crew at all times. Perhaps they were expecting significant turbulence during takeoff or landing. Or maybe they mistook your iPad for a heavier laptop. Or perhaps you simply encountered a flight attendant who was misinformed regarding the policy. If you were able to get the flight attendant's name, it might be worth sending an inquiry directly to Southwest. I suspect however you'll most likely receive a scripted reply. At any rate, hopefully the rest of your flight was uneventful.

And if you do reach out to SW directly, be sure to include specifics like flight numbers, dates, name if you have them so that the airline can recognize the proper individuals!

I'm a HUGE fan of the chat function within the app. I'm impacted by the hurricane and just rebooked tickets using the chat function -- we are overseas now and our travelling party has multiple PNR numbers (one down side of Companion Pass bookings). Literally no wait to get in to the chat with Diana. I think there were 2 people in the queue but the numbers ticked away before I could even think about it.

For group travel you would need 10 people on paid (credit/debit card/PayPal) you aren't able to do group travel with a points ticket but you can always book them separately. Here's what I would do: since your booking 11 people I would book 1 on points if you have enough then do the other 10 on a group reservation. Hope this helps Blake

If your ok with spliting up you may ask the representative to do that as flights may be full. -Blake With Dorian approaching and casusing the airline to cancel flights, you may find the phone lines are jammed. If so, try the cell phone app chat function. Twitter or e-mail can be tried in parallel. If using twitter, do not include things like confirmation number until you are in DM mode. To access either twitter or e-mail click on contact us at the bottom of this page, and then either twitter or e-mail from the choices on the top left of the ensuing page. That being said, everyone that was on the same cancelled flight that you were on is scrambling for the same open seats that you are, and no airline can give you seats if it has no seats to give. The airline will get you to your destination. The question is when. Hope it works out. Good luck.

Orlando International Airport (MCO) just announced that they will cease commercial flights on Monday at 2am if you have flights Monday or Tuesday I recommend changing your flight now before flights fill up for late week. edit: good news MCO has decided not to close Monday at 2am since the storm track has shifted delays/cancellations are still possible though so be sure to check your flight status before heading to the airport.

@ALiMac To cancel one person off a reservation you would need to reach out to reservations at 800-435-9792 or you could try the chat function on the Southwest mobile app and they might to be able to assist you there as well. Hope this helps! Blake

@Jayandruk wrote: It looks like due to some large pruchases on my SW Visa this year I am going to earn a companion pass for the first time ever. My questions is, can I get refunded for flights I have already booked for next year if I make one of my kids traveling with me my companion? I know I could cancel a reservation and hold it for a year but that would not be helpful because that person would be able to fly free with me all year anyway and the credit would expire. I suppose I could name one kid as my companion, cancel their already booked flights, take the early year trips, then chnage my companion to my other kid and use the credit from the first kid to book flights later in the year. Will that work if needed? One idea I have is for the childs reservation you cancel and make the companion you can use the travel funds from the canceled flight to pay the $5.60 fee each way (or higher for international flights) when you rebook the child as the companion. Just be sure you use the remainder of the funds by the expiration date which is one year from the original reservations booking date. Hope this helps! Blake

I know with the old system when I booked a flight like this (4 legs) it wouldn't give me the boarding pass for the 4th flight until the 2nd flight (the one way portion) was compleye because I had too many flights. I'm not sure how it works now as I have had A List so not sure if it would check me in for all 4 if I didn't have the status (if that makes sense) With the old system I bought EB for the 2nd one way of the multi city that way I would be checked in even though i wasnt able to access the boarding pass until I was in the middle of the travel day. I learned the hard way the 1st time I did it 6 years a go by getting a C boarding pass on the 4th leg because of how the system worked at the time. Keep in mind the time zone difference when you go to check in for the last part of the reservation. -Blake

We apologize for any miscommunication. Southwest LUV Vouchers are valid for travel within 12 months of the date of issue, and we're sorry you were unable to use it prior to the expiration date. It is our sincere hope we'll be able to see you onboard another Southwest flight in the future.

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience at the travel inn. If I walked in to a hotel/motel that looked like that I would check out just as fast as I checked in and find another hotel/motel. My suggestion is to reach out to the management of that hotel or reach out to the company you booked your hotel through at the phone number which is usually somewhere at the bottom of the confirmation email they sent you when you booked if you don't see a phone number on the bottom of the email I recommend you visit the website you booked though and find the contact us link so they can hopefully help you. I hope your next hotel stay will be better than this one! Blake

I'm not sure where @SWDigits comment went, but he indicated there were lots of storms in the DC area yesterday. This cancelation does appear to be a result of that as the plane that was scheduled to fly ATL-AUS instead went ATL-DCA this morning. The "didn't sell enough tickets" reason makes sense in a traditional hub and spoke situation, but makes no sense with Southwest as the plane can't just not go without affecting the 5+ stops it is scheduled to make the rest of the day. When bad weather or mechanical issues screw things up there is a ripple affect and unfortunately you were impacted by one of those ripples. --TheMiddleSeat

Put on headphones or ear plugs and sleep, it definitely helps the time fly by and you'll be ready to explore Hawaii once you land. It may also help you reset your internal clock to the time difference as you "wake up" on the plane at the earlier Hawaii time. Have a great trip! --TheMiddleSeat
