It's probably two hours later than you'll be getting up the next day...consider it as a warm up for tomorrow! Book one-way flights anyway - among other flexibility benefits you can add early-bird to just one leg, especially for the early morning scenario that you are describing.

You used to be able to claim your credit retroactively to have the points added to your account, but I can't find that link any longer...anyone know if that is still an option? Also if you are looking for amenity and points, book Business Select instead of Anytime...typically for an extra $20 you'd get 12x points, A1-15, and a beverage with all the other flexibility benefits of Anytime fares.

If your flight is a continuing flight, you also will be behind people that originated earlier but get to check in for all of their legs at once, those passengers may be checked in a few hours before the 24-hour mark. For flights that originate with your flight this won't be a contributing factor. I agree with the other poster, if you are close to A-list get it! Having the automatic check-in is a huge relief, plus then you can also board at position "A61" during times when you get a poor position for whatever reason (last minute changes, standby, etc.)

I've only used the rental car section of the garage, I don't remember these there but I'll be on the lookout next time. Usually I have my mobile pass already and need to check baggage anyway, so I could have walked right past them.

I'd sometimes agree on the Chicago to Indianapolis route (3.5-hour drive), but for Minneapolis, Ohio, Kentucky, etc. I'm flying Southwest for sure. Longer routes are also on sale, just not for $49...there are several tiers 49/59/69/79 and some are more than $100 but still reduced from the normal rate. I'm sure $49 is meant to be attention grabbing if that's what you mean but in my opinion the sale is legitimate and they note that the fare is for limited destinations. Even for the closest city I might still fly if I wasn't going to rent a car on the other end.

He's Gary Kelly! j/k, I don't think he is, but who knows? Anyway, one of the fine print items that may or may not be enforced is: An adult traveling with a child six years old or younger may board during Family Boarding, which occurs after the A group has boarded and before the B group begins boarding. If the child and the adult are both holding an A boarding pass, they should board in their assigned boarding position. ...so the implication was that for each child under six years old, one (or personally I think reasonably two) adults would also board, but it wouldn't be carte blanche for five or six people to board with only one young child.

You mentioned last-minute flights - point redemtions are great in my opinion for Wanna Get Away fares. If the pricing of the flight has gone up and you flight Southwest very often, it may make sense to save the points for sale fares and pay cash for the flight while you'll be earning more points - especially if all that is left are Anytime or Business Select at 10x or 12x points. If you fly Southwest infrequently, then I'd say use the points up and save cash flow.

I have cancelled same day, there is a hard limit but it is much shorter than you would think, like 10 or 15 minutes before departure. Much shorter than the actual amount of time you would need to know that you will or won't be trying to make the flight. Earlier would be a little better if it is a sold out flight, then someone else who wants to get on that flight can book it instead of waiting for standby spots.

Then you are in good shape, cancel the points booking and the points will be returned to her. Then rebook for yourself with travel funds and use the confirmation number and your name from the points booking to recover your $5.60 paid for each leg. You'll have to pay the current airfare price of course, hopefully not much movement on that since she booked it. Make sure the current price isn't way higher before you cancel...or maybe it will even be lower if you can capitalize on the sale in progress through today.

Where are you starting from? the fares do exist but will be between cities that are relatively close, for instance Midway to any of the Ohio destimations, Indianapolis, or a few others: https://www.southwest.com/html/promotions/promotions_nationwide_sale_171010_offers.html?clk=HOMEHERO_WOW171012 They also aren't necessasrily available all day, so timing of the flight may block you from the cheapest fare, but the sale is still good for the applicable city pairs.

I haven't ever heard that RR goes offline for several days at the end of the year, and in fact made my own A-list run from MDW to MSP and back on December 30th last year successfully. Both A-list and companion pass tier qualifying requirements are very clear about flying in the calendar year, if the qualification will be based on number of flights. For points it is the same, but the points have to post in the calendar year so maybe I'd avoid a New Year's Eve flight as the last piece to make the threshold. December 30th should be posted in time. Credit card qualifying points for CP are a different story, since the statement closing can be much later than flights taken and credit to the next calendar year, but I don't think that was your question.

I don't believe these could be retroactively applied, unless she had used points in which case she can get her points back and make a new booking with the travel funds. If you thought the April 2017 travel funds would be expiring before you flew again, you could cancel the current booking and re-book with the travel funds - the current booking would end up as travel funds expriring October 2018, but that would also be her money tied up in your name if that matters. This only helps if you knew you would fly sometime between April and October next year. Best option is probably to see if you'll fly again before April next year and use the funds on another ticket if possible.

Convert to gift cards? https://www.1.awardhq.com/24468SWA0SWARR/shop/gift-cards-all/_/N-115353+4294959434?icid=SWA_gc_oct2017_darden Points-wise you can search flights and show an equivalency in terms of points to book vs cash fare at the time. Otherwise you aren't able to convert directly to cash. Several sites such as The Points Guy and others provide a valuation of points based on a number of assumptions, but that may not be exact enough for what you need. With companion pass for instance the value might be over $0.02/point. I'm not sure how this affects a trip to Ireland, but hopefully an OIive Garden gift card gets you where you need to be.... ...Edit: and a lunch.

There's an online search, but it may be tricky since the item could go several flights or even route turnover before being found so it may be difficult to tag it as belonging to your origination or destination. https://live.nettracer.aero/southwest-paxview/lostandfound/landing.do I used this unsucessfully to find my daughter's iPhone 4S in a pink and purple case in case anyone has seen that one flying around...possibly MDW-SFO, SFO-SLC...

@matdog58 I'm interested to hear what happened to others doing this. Theoretically the boarding position that you just vacated might still be available and re-assigned. Also if you are an A-list customer, then personally I'd take Pre-check first and then board with A-listers at "A61".

I like the interiors and the overhead bins are more capable - I don't usually have any, but I think it helps speed up everyone else. There is a larger exit row section, so the two-seat rows are on both sides and each then has a corresponding seat with no seat in front of it. Two bathrooms in back and the baby changing table is easier. Usually I'm traveling with wife and young daugher so we aren't taking exit rows ourselves, but if there are more of them to go around it helps other A-list passengers go for that while I take something else. Of course there are additional seats too so the extra bathroom and exit row seats are probably in proportion but since my A-list position is the same or family boarding at "A61" stays the same we end up getting better selection in general. I'm not sure if I think the wifi works better or not, too many variables to evaluate it.

I had one of these recently as well. My points showed up in the account history with the confirmation number and referred to as "flight refund" instead of the actual origination and destination like on all the other regularly completed flights in my account history. Can you double-check that you don't have a credit called "refund" that corresponds to the leg that you did fly?

Yes, start booking the flight like normal and click on through to provide payment. When you get to the payment stage, there will be an option to put in your credit card or check a box for alternate payment methods which include flight credit, LUV vouchers, etc. The page will refresh when you check that box and you can enter your confirmation number and first and last names to apply the credit. Good luck Sandy!

I know the anxiety can be tough with all the variables. Hopefully the next time a similar situation would occur the flight attendant would be happy to accomodate you if you let them know that you have a system in place to help you fly. The ironic part is that for most people the rear of the plane near the restroom isn't a desirable spot so I'm sure the FA was wanting to stay behind everyone and usually it wouldn't be an issue. The FA's probably look forward to those empty late-night flights so that they can sit in regular seats, but I wonder if the FA guidebook says only when they are in the last row, they may not be able to sit in front of other passengers.

This is the opposite problem of most people who are on this board trying to squeeze it in. If you have the card in-hand already, you'd need to chart out when the closing statements will be. The regular points have to be earned in the calendar year, so a closing statement in December won't contribute to earning CP in 2018 good through 2019, they would most likely contribute to earning CP in 2017, good through 2018. Check with the other commenters about whether the timing of the bonus points might be delayed slightly to hit in 2018. I'm not sure when the bonus points will hit, but I don't think it is a long time after that third billing period closing date although the fine print allows some time to pass they don't necessarily take that long.
