@DancingDavidE At the moment, there isn’t much open in the way of food. I think that is in part due to COVID but also due to construction. You can find out all the options here. And as the project progresses, I expect to see more local establishments open. And we have good food in Nashville, so that is good news!

Officially Companions are excluded from this benefit because of the mentioned issue: you have two separate reservations. That means that the A Lister will get the “preferred” boarding spot, and the companion will have to secure his or her own. I appreciate the SW enhancement for folks traveling on the same reservation, but it does not address the boarding challenge from SW’s most valuable travelers: CP holders. Our method when we travel with family (me as A List, wife on CP, and kids on points) is that I board in my spot and save a row then my fam joins me when they board with family boarding after the A group. Hopefully this will change one day!

In theory this is possible, but there are two things to note. SW has a limit of six pets per flight and a limit of one pet carrier per paying passenger. They also reserve the right to adjust that per flight. So you should be good if you get two cats in one carrier. Here are all the details from SW’s site.

If you’ve been to or through Nashville International Airport (BNA) lately, you’ve surely noticed two things: 1) shiny new facilities, and 2) ongoing construction. The airport is in the middle of a major overhaul to ensure it can accommodate strong growth and serve the future travel needs of “Music City” and middle Tennessee. The multi-year plan is called BNA Vision, and it includes projects such as a new concourse and gates, new parking facilities, a new entrance and terminal renovations, a hotel, and additional security lanes.
I recently took my first trip (on Southwest, of course) since COVID-19 largely drove travel to a halt, and I had the pleasure of seeing the progress and enjoying the new facilities that have been completed. Here is what you can expect next time you are at BNA.
The airport is now separated into two independent terminals, which is a major but temporary change to expedite construction. Southwest operates out of the south terminal, which is identified as blue. Signs as you approach the airport and throughout the facility will direct you, and you must go through the south security checkpoint to get to Southwest gates that are in both C and D Concourses. Southwest’s new check-in counter is right beside the south checkpoint, so it is easy to get in the airport and through security very quickly!
Southwest ticketing and south security checkpoint
Once you get through security, you’ll turn right for gates in Concourse C or left to find the new, stunning Concourse D. It’s open and bright and absolutely beautiful! There are six new gates, all of them for Southwest flights. You’ll find art installations, room for several new food and retail outlets, a mothers’ room, and an internal service animal relief area. The expansive windows adjust to darken as needed to control the light and comfort, and the LEED-registered facility is focused on sustainability! While the rest of the airport is getting new tile and carpet to lighten up the overall feel, the brand-new Concourse D is refreshingly airy and open! See more about Concourse D through this virtual tour.

Speaking of carpet, the old carpet at BNA has a massive following on social media; unfortunately, it is on the way out. Over time, it has been replaced by tile and new carpet. While I’ll miss seeing the well-known old design, I have to admit that it’s easier to roll a bag on tile versus carpet! I’d love to see the airport memorialize the old carpet in a small way, perhaps in an art installation or in some small places throughout the facility.
BNA Carpet
Other things to look out for include a model of the expanded airport in the ticketing lobby, new baggage claim carousels, new rental car counters, and a mural selfie spot in Terminal Garage 2 where the rideshare pickup is located. The addition of that new rideshare and shuttle pickup space has been very helpful in alleviating congestion during busy pickup times, and it is a welcome change!
Selfie Spot
You can read all about the ongoing project at BNA Vision, and if you’re really a fan of the airport and/or Nashville, you can purchase BNA merchandise at BNAShop.com! My personal favorite item is the BNA Carpet Doormat. Also, be sure to follow the airport’s Twitter and Facebook pages; you can find lots of good info shared there.
BNA Vision Timeline
Nashville is a great place to visit, and BNA’s efforts to update its facilities are creating a beautiful new gateway to Music City. I can’t wait to see the continued progress, and hope you also get the chance to see it soon!

Welcome! There is a ton of information in the Knowledge Base on this community! That would be a good place to look. Also, SW’s site is helpful. Be sure to read about the boarding process as well; it is different from most airlines. Happy flying!

You can definitely fly to Cancun, but I am not sure about those other destinations. It may have to do with it being hard to get from LAX to those destinations in the same day, given that SW does not have red eyes and you would have to connect (likely through Baltimore or Atlanta); I would have to do more research. I assume you checked many different dates?

I was also shocked to discover that I was able to attend a Teams meeting once on a flight. Given the WiFi’s speed for browsing, I never thought it would be possible. That said, I was in listen-only mode with earbuds. The major problem I see here is that you can’t make calls during a flight, and this is essentially what you were doing, especially since you were talking. Even though you were talking quietly, I (respectfully) imagine your neighbors might not have appreciated it.

I would assume that the SW one is specifically made for their dimensions, and I would like to clarify that it is $58 and not $5800. Seems pretty affordable to me, so I would think that would be a good way to go? Find all the details about traveling with pets here. These options at Chewy might also work. Worth a look.

I hate to hear this. Unfortunately, your only option with empty middle seats would be Delta; like SW, they have taken pretty substantial COVID measures to protect passengers. You mention “we.” What is your party size? If there are three of you, you could occupy a whole row with little to no impact from the middle seat policy change; just a thought. If you would like to share your concerns/feedback directly with SW, please use the Contact Us link below as this is a customer community.

Hi there! As long as you are connecting from one flight to another as part of the same trip (both flights are part of the same confirmation), your bags will be transferred. For peace of mind, when you check your bags before leaving, you can confirm the tag has the airport code for your final destination. SW transfers countless bags every day for connecting passengers, so there is no need to be concerned. Happy flying, and while you’re at it, a popular stop at Midway in Chicago is Nuts on Clark.

Interesting. You guys have a unique situation in that you hold the CP without A List status but your “companion” has A List. there could be something that had changed, but it had always been that CP holder and companion do not board together. Furthermore, I would assume that if there had been a policy change made and communicated that there would have also been a tech/system update that would have accomplished the new policy automatically. A quick DM to the social email team would get you “official” confirmation. And hopefully we will indeed see an enhancement to the policy soon!

Many of us use Rapid Rewards points to make it to Companion Pass with Southwest Air. Even though this year’s CP has been extended into half of next year, it is worth noting that for next year’s qualification, if you use points earned with a Chase RR credit card, the deadline for those points counting is the day in December when your statement comes out. This means that some points earned in December (after the s statement date in Dec.) will not count in this year for qualification for a 2021 CP. “For example, if your December statement closes on December 16, points for purchases posted to your statements made after that date will not count toward qualifying points for the year.” I share this as a friendly reminder to plan ahead! Good luck! More here at Chase.

These gents have it right! Here is what the SW site says officially: “Two adults traveling with a child six years old or younger may board during Family Boarding, which occurs after the “A” group has boarded and before the “B” group begins boarding. If the child and the adult are both holding an “A” boarding pass, they should board in their assigned boarding position.” You might also find this Knowledge Base article about traveling with kids helpful. Good luck!

Hi there! First of all, pls edit your post to remove your co formation number as this is a public forum. Here is the verbiage from SW’s site: Golf bag in hard-sided golf bag carrying case provided by Passenger, including clubs, balls, and shoes. Hooded golf bags or golf bags in a soft-sided carrying case provided by the Passenger will be subject to limited release. Note: Overweight charges will apply to golf bags exceeding 50 pounds. Furthermore, regarding size: “If the item of sporting equipment exceeds 50 pounds in weight or 62 inches in size (outside length plus height plus width), excess weight and size charges may apply.” So as long as your measurement of the size of your carry case fits the 62 inch rule, you would be fine. Otherwise, you would need to be prepared to pay. Happy flying and golfing!

It does seem extreme, but as has been said, SW was doing what is pretty standard across the industry unless you have elite status. To take a flight different than the one you purchased, you have to pay for the current cost of that flight, and SW fares generally are very high in the few days prior to departure (again, an industry standard). Are you sure the earlier flight to Nashville was direct and didn’t include a stop? And was there a reason you didn’t book that flight to start with?

I just want to clarify the policy as it can be confusing... If you are A List with a fellow traveler on the same reservation/booking as you, they will get a boarding position with you and can board with you. It is automatic. Here is the language: “...you and all Passengers included on your reservation will receive priority boarding which means Southwest will automatically reserve a boarding position 36 hours prior to the flight. You and Passengers on your reservation will still need to check in within 24 hours of scheduled departure to retrieve your boarding passes. Some restrictions apply.“ If you are talking about your Companion Pass companion, that is different and does not fall under this policy. Companions (for CPs) are technically booked on a separate reservation (different conf #), so they will have the check in separately and get their own boarding position. My wife and I fall into the CP category. I board in my better A List Pref boarding position and hold a seat for her. If her boarding position is particularly “bad,” we use an upgraded boarding credit from my Chase Southwest Premier credit card so that we are closer together. I hope this clarifies.

Hi there! Everything you need to know about what SW is doing to keep passengers safe (and there is a lot), you can find here. Specifically, SW has empty middle seats through the end of Nov along with a mask requirement for all passenger age two and older. As far as MA travel restrictions go, you can find all that info here. happy flying!

I echo the recommendation for the 60 minute one; I would do that even if I were traveling solo. Midway is not that big, but there can be a pretty significant spread between Southwest gates. Good luck!

I don’t like layovers that short either, but your situation reminds me of short connections through Atlanta. All the SW gates are super close together, so assuming everything is on time, having that short of a connection is perfect and means less travel time. This time of year and with planes not being as full, hopefully you will be OK with no unforeseen delays. Good luck!

It is based on your card member anniversary. You get four new ones when the anniversary year rolls over! Unfortunately, there is no place to go to track what you have used and what you have left. A quick call to Chase will clarify; they are the authority on the card and all benefits associated. It is a great perk, especially for my wife. She is my companion on the Companion Pass, so we are never able to board together. We sometimes upgrade her boarding position so that she is closer to me; I usually have a good spot due to being A List Preferred. Enjoy the card and flying SW!

It sounds like you have had a lot going on, and I am sorry to hear about your troubles. Generally speaking (except for certain dates due to COVID), travel funds expire one year from the date of purchase. This is standard Southwest published policy, and of course it’s a rather generous policy compared to other airlines. I can only suggest two things: 1) try again by reaching out to customer relations at 855-234-4654. You’d be asking for an exception, but all you can do is ask. Or 2) convert to a voucher less the $100. At least you wouldn’t lose it all. Good luck, and stay healthy.
