@Jayandruk It sounds like you already have a Chase RR personal card. If that is the case, I recommend getting the Chase RR business card! There are a couple of reasons: The expenses you mention are indeed business-related, and this would give you a separate card designated for business expenses. If you already hold a personal card, getting the business card is the only way you will receive the sign up bonus (assuming you don't already have the business card). These points are valuable, especially for Companion Pass qualification. Check here to get more info about the business card.

Also keep in mind that not all sale fares are advertised. Depending on your market, which it might help to include in future questions, Southwest may offer lower fares without advertising it. This is usually done due to competition on particular routes lowering their prices and Southwest tries to remain the lowest price, or at least competitive. Southwest may advertise a sale price of $100 to fly from A-B, but if you check other dates that weren't included in the sale you may find $70 fares. This applies to cities that aren't even listed as having sales too. --TheMiddleSeat

Yes - you can purchase EBCI for just one leg. You can add the feature online or over the phone. Keep in in mind SW checks in EB customers beginning 36 hour’s prior to the flight. I encourage you to add it before that time, although as long as you add it before 24 hours out, you should beat all the folks who don’t have EBCI.

I agree with @dfwskier and @elijahbrantley although I would also maybe wait for a break if possible to minimize the appearance of cutting in - if there are four or five people left in the currently boarding column I'd jump in behind them. I frequently do this when I'm carrying baby gear and I have an A-20's number - I hang to the back and just go after A-30 so that I don't bump people with all of the bags. Agree that in a situation where you are late boarding, jump in from the side if you'll be short-circuiting the line, unless if you catch the line at the tail end just jump in the back of it and no one will even know you are out of order.

Re-evualing a policy is not uncommon for a corporation. To be specific, what needs to be evaluated or clarified is the age policy for family boarding versus the age for unaccompanied minor adults. I'm not trying to make a simple buck or rant on the overall company of Southwest but it is sheer frustration and embarrassment from an EMPLOYEE of Southwest who could have been bit more empathetic knowing this is a common mistake to the existing written policy.

As @CareforNOLA and @TheMiddleSeat have already pointed out, we have no access to personal information. We’re here to help. I’m a big, cheesy fanboy of SW airlines for countless reasons, and long before this site existed, I was sharing my love for and knowledge of SW to everyone. As a frequent flyer whose flown them all, SW is the best choice for me and my family. Community Champion or not, I will always promote SW. It should also be noted that this is a customer Community site. It is designed for us to help each other! My hope is that I can share the LUV and help others understand how to navigate the great benefits of SW.

No, a car seat isn't required. You might choose to do so, and I actually recommend this alternative harness that is approved by the FAA which will be much easier - especially if you wouldn't otherwise be carrying the car seat onboard: https://www.southwestaircommunity.com/t5/Family-Travel/CARES-harnesses/m-p/75683 Above two years old the children will have a ticket, if you have a ticket you are required to sit in a seat during take-off and landing (that's FAA, not just Southwest), and it is recommended to be seat-belted at all times in case of unexpected turbulence. The FA may have varying attitude for him to sit on his aunt's lap during the flight (other than take-off and landing), that's up to you but you'll be reminded about the chance of unexpected turbulence. In that case at least you'll have a seat for him to provide more space.

Yes. A companion can be added to any ticket, regardless of how booked, as long as a seat is available on that flight. (Only exception is a companion cannot be added to a companion ticket.)

@gamemasterdls68, I am sorry that this delay happened to you. Having been a frequent traveler for work for decades, I have been frustrated with many different incidents and airlines. I was very relieved when the Department of Transportation passed rules and penalties in 2010 which discouraged airlines from loading passengers on a plane and making them sit for 4-5 hours waiting for take-off because I had that happen to me more than once (but my two incidents were on other airlines). It feels better to endure the delays in the terminal than on the tarmac. As a tax geek, I have to point out that Mr. Kelly’s income level puts him in a tax bracket that means he is more likely to be audited by the IRS than the average person, and the 1998 IRS Restructuring and Reform Act Section 1203 protects taxpayers from acts of retaliation from IRS employees. Air travel can be rough and it seems like you had one of those trips. I hope future travels are smoother for you.

If this comes up often, then you may want to re-nominate so that each of you can fly, and each have a companion (two free tickets) instead of being limited to one companion ticket, if you travel with the same group very often. Otherwise, you can try to add one and see what happens if the functionality is there. This would be unfortunate if it wasn't allowed, and Southwest only found out close to the date of travel then the "companion of the companion" would be out of a ticket, and either not travel or have to buy a last minute fare. If you try it today, way before travel though, then you can see if it allows you to go all of the way through booking or not. The quotation from the terms sounds like it is not allowed though.

@DaijP wrote: If I wanted to cancel my flight and unfortunately I have a non-refundable ticket, is it possible for me to get my money back and not credit. I’m not a traveler and I never traveled before this was gonna be my first time and I would really hate if it goes to credit cause I didn’t plan on traveling anywhere else. After the travel funds expire a year from the original date of purchase you may be able to pay a fee (currently $100) to have the travel credit exchanged for a voucher. If your credit was more than $100, then once you had the voucher anyone could use it in case you have a family member or friend that flies more frequently. Make sure of what the expiration would be for the voucher that someone you know would be able to use it before paying any additional money. Keep an eye on the sales, maybe you'll see a fun opportunity pop up to use all or most of your travel fund credit that you weren't expecting. Depending where you are it could maybe even be used for a day trip to somewhere like Minneapolis where you can take the light rail into town or Mall of America...sight see, and head back to the airport same day. Chicago is obviously a good one in that regard. A few other cities are also setup well to see a few sights and get back to the airport easily.

BTW, the early check in does not always work. I paid for their automatic "early check in" on a flight home from Cancun and they did not do it. I was in a remote area at check in time and my wife and I had to check in on our own later when we had cell reception again. Never count on it and always follow up to be sure it happened. Never even got around to calling to get my $$ back either but that was on me.

@elijahbrantley wrote: Hey hey! What @chgoflyer said. I actually had to read the family boarding policy, and it’s rather vague. It says “An adult traveling with a child six years old or younger may board during Family Boarding.” This caught me off guard because (as stated), I see whole families get on together all the time, and it seems to be largely allowed. It’s not uncommon to see one youngster, the parents, and their grandparents board during family boarding. Personal opinion moment: as much as I like SW boarding, this is one area that is not that great. If the policy were enforced as it reads, it could make family boarding difficult, even if sitting together is not important. A while back, there was a brief period of strict enforcement re: not allowing adults in addition to parents to board with the family, following an incident where a gay couple were denied Family Boarding (the couple wanted to board with a grandparent as well). I still frequently see social media posts from someone upset that their grandparents (aunt, uncle, etc.) couldn't board with the family at Family Boarding. Which is how it should be, IMHO. Much like Preboarding, Family Boarding has become somewhat of a free-for-all. If you're the unlucky one who -- despite purchasing EarlyBird Check-In -- has a B or later boarding position, you suffer. Admittedly, since seat-saving is allowed, it's ultimately not that different really whether the OPS agent enforces policy strictly or loosely, but I do think that consistency would help avoid customer anger and stress. Southwest's boarding system certainly has it's challenges.

Morinng. I'd advise you to take a look at your point history to verify the transactions. You get there by logging into your Southwest account. Looking at the left side of the page click on recent activity. That gives you a list of all points added to and subtracted from your account. If in fact you changed your first flight (both the original and the changed flight would have the same confirmation number), what you should see is 3250 points subtracted (for first flight), 1741 points subtracted (for the change), followed by 4991 points added (for the cancellation. If that's not what you see, you probably should follow elijah's suggestion and contact customer service. The last time I cancelled a fight purchased with points, the cancellation page gave me the option of getting a $ refund or keeping the funds in my travel fund account. You should have received three e-mails from SW: 1) For your original reservation showing points used and $charged as 9/11 security fee 2) For the change (subject would have been UPDATED flight reservtion" 3) For the cancellation (subject would have been CANCELLED flight reservation) the end of the e-mail would specify what happend to you 9/11 security fee.

In addition to what @bec102896 said, there are some situations where fliers would not be eligible for a boarding pass. From SW's site: "All passengers that are eligible to obtain a printed boarding pass should be able to utilize the mobile boarding pass option. However, passengers traveling on certain types of fares may not be eligible. Infants, unaccompanied minors, individuals traveling on Senior Fares that need to be age verified, nonrevenue passengers, and Military Fares are not eligible to receive a mobile boarding pass."

My advice: If the flight was just purchased yesterday, and the fare shown online now is the same as when purchased, just cancel, request a full refund, and rebook with the correct name. Southwest (by law) allows cancellation with full refund within 24 hours of booking. If it's too late, or if the fare has increased, or if EarlyBird Check-In was added to the itinerary, I second the advice above. Just be prepared to be patient, and HUTA (hang up, try again) if you reach a rep that is unable to help you. Good luck.

Agreed...the only flights (and points from those flights) that count toward your tier qualification are your own (ones you fly). You cannot earn tier qualifying anything from the flights of others. As @DancingDavidE pointed out, Companion Pass is a little different. Since Southwest Chase Credit Card points count toward CP qualification, the points from buying others' flight can count for your CP qualification.

Hi again, Rae. I fully understand why you want to fly other airlines that have fares significantly cheaper than those offered by Southwest. In similiar situations, I do the same. Since you apparently like fliying with Southwest, you might just want to occasionally check SW fares in the future to see if the situation changes. Have a good week.

"Are you wondering if you can see what date is the cheapest from A-B? If so there is the low fare calendar where you can view cheapest dates " THAT is the best way to find the lowest fares, IMO. Checking more than once is also a good idea as SW fares do go up AND down. The problem with using the published fare sale information is that the lowest fares sometimes are below the fares shown as the sale fare. For example, I regularly fly from Dallas to Chicago, and from Dallas to Denver, and I can almost always find fares lower then the stated "sale" fares between those airports. The only way that is revealed is via the low fare calendar. Signing up to receive fare sale e-mails is a good thing to do, but you need to dig a bit deeper. edit add: there is one exception to what I've said, and that exception is if SW runs a "distance based" fare sale (ie flights up to 499 miles cost $X, flights from 500 - 749 miles cost $Y , etc). Note that not all flights will be priced as such but SOME will be. These fare sales normally are a good deal. Southwest has historically run sales like this a few times a year. Interestingly the one that was run a few months ago, was not mileage based. So Southwest may have decided to not do this any more. We'll have to wait for the next one to see. Good luck.
