Who else is bothered by how many hard plastic cups are thrown away on flights every year? No airline has led the way in changing over to bio-degradble cups. We only use them for maybe up to an hour at most. I urge customers to ask Southwest to be the leader and stop procuring plastic cups.

A wonderful way to take your commitment to environmentally friendly actions a step further would be to eliminate single-use plastic from the cabin. Every time I fly, I'm offered a drink and a snack. The drinks come in hard plastic cups that are so sturdy they could be re-used dozens if not hundreds of times before needing to be disposed of. Passengers drink quickly and then the bags come to throw them all away. Plastic is clogging up the planet. There are wonderful alternatives to plastic that are compostable/biodegradable. You could be a leader in the industry to procure from a vendor of sustainable drinkware. Here are some examples of companies that offer such products: https://www.goodstartpackaging.com/ http://www.ecoproducts.com/ Or at the very least you could recycle the plastic that is being thrown away, even if you don't switch to biodegradable products.
