With the 737 Max coming Southwest would have to start issuing D boarding passes if it wasn't for the large/growing number of pre-boarders.

In the 100's of times I've flown Southwest I've never heard this group mentioned by the gate attendant. It's always A-Listers, Family and military in uniform that can go between A and B. I have never heard them mention a group that would fall into a boarder that needs extra time. I'm not saying you're wrong but it must be such an infrequent occurrence they don't feel the need to mention it.

A lot of seat savers will tell you that the person in that seat is in the lavatory. You can look back and forth and see no lavatory lights on and then this person enters the plane 5 minutes later. So these people are not only inconsiderate, i.e. put their interests above others, but often times untruthfull.

Everyone understands why someone would want to save seats.

I've seen a whole row occupied by one person but there were items on the other 5 seats. I asked the guy if he knew what this was all about? His response was he was saving seats for his family. I sat in the row behind because I wanted to witness how this played out. Luckily for him it was a fairly empty flight, rare occurrence so he got away with it. Had it been the typical full flight there would definitely have been some confrontation. IMO, Southwest's lack of a policy just invites confrontation. Is that what they're striving for?

Well that just makes no sense. If you are familiar with queing theory putting a slow boarder in front of others increases the boarding time for everyone behind them. It saves no time in the boarding process. If the person does not need pre-boarding assistance then what is gained by moving him up in the queue?

A couple of years ago I was also A-List Preferred, now just A-List. I changed my flight on short notice and was issued a C boarding pass, but it stated A-List Preferred. I boarded at the end of the A group and the boarding agent felt the need to come on the intercom and announce that I was trying to board out of position. I pointed to A-List Preferred on my pass and she thankfully became silent.

Just ask the boarding agent. Southwest is very lax about enforcing this policy. This may seem like a nice gesture on their part but it's easy to be accomodating when it comes at other peoples' expense.

I've been on a Southwest flight where a woman asked to board in the family group even though her daughters were both teenagers. The agent agreed to let her. Now Southwest can cop-out on the saving seats issue by saying that they have no policy but they have a very specific policy about family boarders and typically choose not to enforce it.

I was on a Southwest flight a couple years ago where a woman was travelling with her teenage son. They boarded late so couldn't sit next to each other. The mother asked a flight attendant if there was any way they could sit together. The flight attendant came on the intercom and asked if anyone was willing to switch seats so that this mother and son could sit together. No one volunteered. The flight attendant had the audacity to say that they weren't going to be leaving until someone agreed.

There is no group that boards between A and B based upon special needs. Parents travelling with children 6 and under, active duty in military and A-Listers that didn't get an A position are the only groups that fit in between The A and B group.

On another thread about this pre-boarding policy the Southwest representative replied that they don't ask about your medical need to pre-board. You could be an Olympic athlete and say you have a medical need to pre-board and it would be honored.

No policy is a policy. Whether Southwest chooses to put it in writing their policy is that seat saving is allowed and there is no limit on the number of seats you can save.

Southwest may say they don't have a policy on this issue but that is in essence setting a policy of seat saving being allowed.

Actually your comment applies to the people that feel it is so important to sit next each other that they save seats. They are the ones that should fly another airline that has assigned seating.
