Generally, yes. Once expired, you have 6 months in which to request the Travel Funds be reissued as a Voucher, which will be valid for 6 months from the date of issue, and the fee is (currently) $100, which is deducted from the value of the funds. There may be a better solution for you however. At some point in the future, Southwest will allow the conversion of covid-19 related Travel Funds into Rapid Reward points, at no fee. Those points could then be used to book travel for anyone. My understanding is that the named passenger on the funds will be in control of the RR points, as they will be held in their account -- so this may or may not work for your specific situation. If it doesn't work for you, and you do need to access the funds more quickly, it may be worth reaching out to Customer Relations to see if they can make an exception to the expiration requirement.
