When my children were younger, I loved to read them Oh, The Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss. Back then, I never imagined all the different places I’d go and opportunities I’d have by working at Southwest Airlines. Most recently, I had the opportunity to volunteer with the Fireman Rob Foundation and help raise the spirits of sick children at Methodist Children’s Hospital.
In February, my San Antonio Center Cohearts and I sold and delivered Valentine’s Day candy roses to raise money for the Fireman Rob Foundation, which uses this money to purchase and deliver Gund Teddy Bears to hospitalized children in all 50 states. Through this fundraiser, we raised $1,200 to present to Fireman Rob and his foundation. He was so impressed with our efforts that he invited us to accompany him to the hospital in San Antonio to deliver the bears. We were thrilled to oblige!
On August 25, we joined Fireman Rob at the hospital as he delivered teddy bears to children who are facing uncertain futures. Toddlers and teenagers alike were thrilled to receive the soft teddy bears, along with fireman hats and stickers. We spent the day talking to the kids about Dora the Explorer and Rescue Rangers, admiring the children’s beautiful artwork, and meeting many of their families. It was a special day to say the least.
Following my time at the hospital, I realized how thankful I am—not only for my six healthy children, but also to work for a Company that encourages me and my Coworkers to spend our time giving back to causes that are near and dear to our Hearts. Because I work for Southwest, I have been given the opportunity to touch the lives of hospitalized children in four states. Because I work for Southwest, I am encouraged to display my Servant’s Heart at work every day.
This is just one of the many places I’ve gone as an Employee of Southwest, and I can’t wait to see where the Spirit of Southwest Airlines takes me next.
