Rob,
If long distance calls are costing you more than a dime these days, may I suggest you join the rest of us in the 21st century with free long distance cell phone plans or flat-rate VOIP service? Paying for long distance is so 20th century. 🙂

Rob,
Let me get this straight. Southwest doesn't care about New Orleans or customers because they are (re)opening San Francisco instead of adding non-stop flights between Birmingham and New Orleans? That sounds more than a bit selfish.
In nearly a year and half Southwest has restored access to/from New Orleans from nearly its entire network. That's hardly "lip service."

I have an awesome idea. Can we move this blog back to the front page, and push out the schedule extension one more week? I am hopeful that by doing so we can surpass the comment record set by the assigned seating post.
Just kidding. 😄

I don't view "Southwest Passage" as spiteful at all. Mr. Muse simply wrote honestly about his tenure from his point of view. I can only hope that when Herb's book (if he writes one; I sincerely wish he does) is published, it is filled with the same candor.

Speaking of great leaders, Lamar Muse, Southwest's founding President and CEO, passed away last night.
I understand why Southwest has never done much, if anything, to honor Mr. Muse's efforts to help build the company, but now it is time to let bygones be bygones. Mr. Muse deserves a very public tribute.

Dwayne,
A customer of size who has purchased a second seat, either on their own or at the request of a gate agent, will be permitted to preboard. As a rule, preboard passengers are not permitted to sit in the exit rows.

Gary,
I think the current discussion of the schedule delay proves that this blog is indeed allowing a free exchange of ideas. Thumbs up to the blog team and contributors for that!

I think I saw something there along the lines of, "What must we do to persuade Southwest to purchase some of our fine Airbus planes?" 😄

I welcome the proposed change, though I agree with US Airways' Doug Parker that the over 60/under 60 rule is very dumb.
ALPA's desire to maintain the status quo is wrong. Currently, younger pilots benefit at the expense of older pilots due to the current absurd rule. That's simply unfair.

Shannon,
You need not have your air travel booked to book hotels and rental cars. Perhaps I wrongly assume that this is common knowledge. The vast majority of hotel and rental car reservations require no deposits and can be changed or cancelled without penalty.

Steve,
As Bill has already stated, the schedule delay is not a mistake or an error. No doubt, this would not be happening without the knowledge and support of his management.
I'm glad Raphael took the high road. That is a courtesy you certainly did not afford Bill. As for me, I will continue to call a spade a spade.

Steve,
Your frustration is understandable, but wishing that Bill is fired for this delay is irrational. You may feel better saying such things anonymously on a blog, but really, you don't need to be a jerk.

This morning's DING! offer was sent out twice (same offers, headline, etc., but two separate notices in the DING! application). That's pretty random!

Consumerist now reports that the second seat charge has been refunded (per policy; nothing exciting there) and the gentleman was given an apology and four vouchers for future travel.

Mike,
I'm not sure why you didn't book your hotel room months ago. While most hotels in Vegas require a one-night deposit, they are almost always fully refundable provided you cancel your reservation within 72 hours of arrival.

AR,
You can avoid the humiliation by being proactive by purchasing two seats upfront. If the flight ends up not being full, you will get a refund for that second seat, same as if a gate agent had asked you to purchase a second seat.

Mary,
Are you for real? Waiting lists? Reimbursement?
Seriously, relax. And if you can't do that, book on another carrier already and be done with this issue.

Neat! I hope this test is successful and these stations spread to other stations. It looks like it beats foraging for floor or wall outlets.

My worst turbulence experience was flying out of STL during a summer storm back in 1998. Almost immediately after takeoff our plane was tossed about like a rag doll. There were a few times where the plane felt like it had been pushed down a thousand feet, leaving me with my stomach in my throat.
After that time, I've never been bothered my turbulence. Planes are designed to withstand more abuse than our plane experienced that night.

I've always known about Southwest's involvement in the show (my wife watches almost religiously, and I always see the Southwest tag at the end), but I wasn't aware that your involvement went beyond providing air transportation for the affected families. Thank you for such a wonderful post!

That's awesome! I would love to see Southwest and Creata Catalog productize (there's that "business speak" Brian is so fond of 😄 ) something like this and make it available for purchase through the Freedom Shop. I would purchase one or two in a heartbeat!

Kirk: I think the lack of landmark announcements is partly due to the fact that some people get annoyed by pilot announcements (and flight attendant humor). Their grumpiness has a chilling effect in my opinion.
