While not detracting from this family's happiness, I'd like to bring attention to the plight of the nearly six million adult adoptees in our own country who have no rights to the history of their own origins.
So much is made of the joys of adoption yet no one seems to remember that adopted children grow up into adopted adults, many of whom were born in the 1970s and before, when records were -- and still are -- sealed.
It would be wonderful to have non-adopted people and corporations understand that we'd really like to know our genealogy, who we look like, where we get our talents and traits from, and so much more.
It's well past time that each state that still has sealed records laws change that to open access for adult adoptees. Every other citizen of this country is entitled to their Original Birth Certificate, except adoptees. Secrets and lies are good for no one. Please help.
