At Southwest Airlines, we’re all about connecting People to what’s important in their lives—and sometimes, that’s connecting them to some good ol’ fashioned winter fun! Earlier today, the Southwest Rink at Denver’s Skyline Park officially opened for business, inviting the Mile High Community to lace up their skates and take to the ice.
Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock kicked off the event with help from City Councilman Albus Brooks, City Councilwoman Judy Montero, Downtown Denver Partnership President Tami Door, and Volunteers of America Director of Community Affairs Jim White. Children from the Sun Valley Youth Center were among the first to take a spin on the freshly-frozen ice, giving the Rink a hearty seal of approval.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Southwest event if we didn’t show our Heart for the Denver community. This year, Rink visitors will receive free skate rentals in exchange for a donation of socks, gloves, or mittens. There will be a donation drop-off center present at the Rink, and all donations benefit Volunteers of America. Mayor Hancock and Jim White helped us get into the spirit of giving by providing donations of gloves and socks to the Sun Valley Youth Center.
To bring some extra cheer to families visiting the Downtown Denver area this holiday season, the Rink will be open on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, hours, and programming, visit southwestrink.com.
We hope to catch you out on the ice soon!

Where there’s a party, there’s a Showgirl! Well, at least here in Las Vegas, that is. And that was certainly the case this week when we celebrated our 30th Anniversary here in LAS. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) and McCarran International Airport pulled out all the stops for us to make this celebration one to remember! To kick off the day, McCarran Airport hosted a press conference where Senior Vice President Procurement Daryl Krause spoke, along with LVCVA President and CEO Rossi Ralenkotter and Clark Country Director of Aviation Randall Walker. Daryl recognized our two 30-year Employees, Ops Sup Bob Battista and Ops Agent Chris Chapin. Our Las Vegas-based Pilots were also awarded the ACE Base Award for the third year in a row for having the highest participation in our Adopt-A-Pilot Program! To wrap it up, we followed along in a toast to the next 30 years with former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman. The Vegas-sized festivities continued in to the Baggage Claim area where Spirit magazine helped arrange to have Vegas Show performers walk around and celebrate with our Customers. Pretty nice way to start their trip to Vegas! You didn’t think we forgot about our Employees, did you? Of course not! Our LAS folks enjoyed lunch from Aloha Kitchen; listened to enjoyed music; received massages from professional masseuses; and played games with the Companywide Culture Committee Members throughout the afternoon. We also had a DJ in the gate area and gave away fortune cookies to our Customers! All in all, it really was a Vegas-sized celebration—thanks to our great partners in Las Vegas, and of course, our amazing Employees!
