I'm opposed to increasing fares across the board so everyone can have "free" WiFi. It's not right that I should pay extra so the jerk next to me (the one who thinks he's the only passenger on the plane - you KNOW who you are!) can annoy me even further by digging his elbows into my personal space while he's typing away on his laptop. If travelers have to pay in flight for the service, they will be less inclined to order it, which means more peace and quiet for those of us who view their travel time as a nice break from work - a chance to relax and recharge before the next meeting.
It IS nice to know the service is available if you absolutely need to get online while 30,000 feet in the air. If I had urgent business matters that absolutely couldn't wait until I landed, I would pay for the service. But don't make me pay for it if I'm going to use it. A fair price would be in the $6.99 - 9.99 range.
