Let me add to this Peanut Allergy Conversation. My son also is highly allergic to peanuts. SWA has been the BEST airline on this topic. With notice, they will replace the peanuts with alternatives, so everyone still gets their snack. They also preboard him so he can have the time to wipe down the seats, armrests, tables, etc., thereby reducing the risk to him. For those of you who think we are being selfish, please understand that unlike any other allergy (and my son used to have most of them), peanut dust gets in the recycled air of airplanes, and can cause an anaphylactic response (throat closing) to someone on the opposite end of the plane. In the event of that, the airplane would have to make an emergency landing to get the passenger to a hospital and quickly. No doubt most other passengers would miss their connections. So, isn't it far less inconvenient to miss a bag of peanuts than a connection? Many airlines have stopped serving nuts altogether. A few still hardline the allergy consideration (Delta's line: "We will ask the passengers in the rows in front and behind to refuse the nuts we are serving"). 18 years of dealing with this, and we have the highest regard for the way SWA deals with this. We only hope that other passengers will understand and have some compassion, and eat pretzels!
