Hi Courtney,
SWA has never had a set change fee. You only have to pay the difference in the fare if you change your flight. For example...If you were booked on a 14 day in advance fare for 99.00 each way and 7 days before your flight was scheduled to depart you had to change it. Depending on what fares were available on that flight you would pay the difference. 14 day in advance was 99.00....change to 7 day in advance fare which is 149.00. You would pay the difference of 50.00.
Bill, great explanation.

Employee Numbers as ZIP Codes. What an inspired idea Blog Boy. My employee number is assigned to ENGLEWOOD, FL. I wish I was there. Do you think we can talk HDQ into moving the whole Company there?

I have worked for SWA for a little over 11 years and I am a 34thousand something or the other. 🐵 At ORC we just hired some brilliant new Reservations Agents in March and they are 83thousand somethings. The funny thing is, most of us can guess pretty close to the year at least when someone new was hired. You are a 54 something, aah....that means you have been here about 7 years. It is just a number, but the memories it holds are priceless.

I have worked at the Oklahoma City Reservations Center for 11 years. 5 1/2 of those years I actively worked the phones. Almost 6 years later and whenever I am on my personal phone and I have to step away from it for a sec I still say "One Moment Please" and then when I get back on it is the inevitable "You are not at work Robin". Some things are just ingrained.

Hey Matthew....
I am an employee and I shamelessly plug my RR Visa through every card reader that I have to use to pay for something with. I have even earned my first free ticket cause there is nothing like flying with a confirmed ticket :o).

Hello from the Oklahoma City Reservation Center. Matthew just left us to go home to ABQ. We miss him terribly but will remember what a great leader he is. They are lucky to have him. P.S. Don't leave your cell phones laying around anywhere near him.....you might just find it loitering in the ceiling tiles.
Love you lots,
Robin

Aaah Reading. One of my most favorite things to do. I am an avid reader and have been as far back as I can remember. I have boxes of books in the garage, and all shelves full three books deep. One of the things that I have noticed is that you remember what the library smells like. I rarely go into one now but when I do, I take a deep breath and it takes me back to sitting in the childrens section and deciding which Dr. Seuss book I wanted next. My books are never left in pristine condition. I read them in bed, in planes, and even in the bathtub. I have some books that I read yearly. I have read the Lord of the Rings every year since I was twelve, and I am 35 now. I also read the Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis and the Stand by Stephen King. And I will also proudly admit to being one of those women who will be seen in public reading a Trash Historical Romance. I have found a great resource for used books on the internet. It is www.thriftbooks.com. Most of their paperbacks are 1 cent and you pay for the shipping of 2.49 a piece. This is still alot cheaper then half off the cover price that you would pay in a used bookstore. I am rambling, I know but you have hit on one of my favorite subjects outside of SWA. Back to reading the rest of the blog.

T-Shirts T-Shirts. We do collect A LOT of T-Shirts. About once a year I go through my T-Shirt drawer and carefully pack away the previous years gains. I can't tell you how many Bags of them I have stored in my Garage. If you figure that I have worked for the Company for 11 years times an average of 5 shirts a year gives you an Idea. That is not counting the nicer collared shirts that I have purchased on my own.

To whomever buys this cookbook. You have GOT to try the Oriental Salad recipe. I am at work right now (shhh....don't tell anyone) so I don't have the page number but it should be easily found.
There is also a darn good sausage Queso recipe as well.
Toodles for now

I was at a training class in Dallas when the event happened. I normally don't watch TV in the morning so when I went downstairs for breakfast they had the TV in the eating area on but the sound was off. To me it just looked like a building on fire. Only when I went to go get the shuttle to the Univeristy for People at Love Field did the shuttle driver let me know about the plane and the possability of terrorisim. I did not want to believe that, instead I convinced myself that it had to be a mechanical error of some sort. On the way, there was speculation and rumors going rampant. Then the second plane hit. I remember the facilitator, bless her, coming into class to let us know that they were evacuating the airport and that we were all being shuttled back to our hotels. I felt helpless. I wanted to go to the reservation center located in Dallas at the time to help out my Company. Unfortunately that was not an option so I sat glued to the TV with a group of people that I did not know and cried on each other shoulders. I also remember being on the top of the Renaissance Hotel in Dallas and looking at the sky and thinking how strange it was to see no DFW or LUV field air traffic. But the "Best" memory of that even happened the day that our first flight took off. We went downstairs and lined up at the fence that faces the gate area. We watched the plane being pushed back and all of us waved. The pilots waved back and so did the Customers. That made me soooo proud. From where we were we could not get a clear site of the runway but once the plane took off we were all laughing and crying and hugging each other because we knew that no matter what, someones evil act could cange our lifestyle a bit, but they could not effect how we live our lives.

My favorite Herbie moment.
First of all, you really have to understand that Herb is our "Rock Star." No one within the Company can generate the kind of response that he can. He literally get's mobbed when he goes out in "SW public." I had worked for the Company for about 9 years before I even got close enough to him to say hi. I was at HDQ last year for some training and I was walking towards the glass elevator in the Lobby. What do my eyes behold but Herb and Colleen getting on the elevator. My heart skipped about 5 beats and I shouted "Hold Please." Being the gentleman that he his, Herb gratiously held the elevator. I rushed on, said hi, got a biiiiigggg smooch from the great one himself, said hi to Colleen, and jumped off. I will never forget that day. He is still my Idol.

I remember when I went into orientation to be a Reservations Agent 10 1/2 years ago. Fewer cities then thank goodness. In order to start training I had to pass a test with all of our city codes on it. I tried to do word association and MCO will forever be "Mickey and Company" to me.

Great article Kathy. I have been an employee in Reservations for over 10 years now. I know what you mean about expecting the same level of Customer Service from everyone else. We were actually just talking about that last week. We have set the bar high and I think that if everyone could aspire to the Positively Outrageous Service that we display, the world would be a much better place. I hope that your recovery is speedy.

Hey Jeff,
I am a T-Shirt addict as well. About once a year I go through my T-Shirt drawer and pull out all of the SWA shirts that I have not worn the in the past year. I can't tell you how many bags of T-shirts that I have stored in my garage. I just can't seem to throw them out. Sometimes I go and look at them and it gives me a visual timeline of my life at SWA. I still have the 1st anniversary shirt from 1996 when the Oklahoma City Reservations center turned 1. We turned 10 last year. I actually still wear the 25th anniversary (Wendy's table) shirt because I get a kick out of it seeing peoples reactions. There have been some industrious and creative people here who have turend theirs into quilts. I am not that crafty. I can tell you that without a doubt my favorite reads "Marry Me, Fly for Free."

Hey Kyle,
When you call for Reservations, or to get a quick question answered, we don't have an automated line. It is personalized service every time. The most that happens is that you may have to hold and listen to a couple of jokes while you are waiting. We pride ourselves here in Reservations about not having an "Push one for this" system because as human beings ourselves, we UNDERSTAND your frustration. Anyway, Thank you so much for the KUDOS.

Hey Eric,
As a 10 year Employee of Southwest Arilines, the best way that I can personally answer that question is to say that you are born to work for the LUV airline. It is just not a job, it is a way of life. A good place for some additional information would be to go to Southwest.Com and look under the About SWA tab. That has alot of great information.
