Southwest Airlines’ spring and summer schedule is ready for takeoff; bringing Customers new airports and new nonstop routes, with fares as low as $29 one-way!
In mid-October, we announced our intent to return to both George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas (IAH) and Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport in Jackson, Mississippi (JAN). Today, we’re excited to say that you’ll start seeing our Boeing-737s starting in 2021.
George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas
Nearly 50 years after beginning service, Southwest will return to the airport it first served in Houston, Texas, George Bush Intercontinental in April 2021. This additional service at the city’s north side airport will complement Southwest’s longtime Houston operation at William P. Hobby Airport.
Starting April 12, 2021, Southwest Customers will be able to fly between Houston (Bush) and five destinations nonstop: Chicago (Midway), Dallas (Love Field), Denver, Nashville, and New Orleans. These new flights are available for purchase now at Southwest.com.
Southwest first-served Houston through Houston (Bush), a point in the iconic “Texas Triangle” of original airports linked together on the first day of its operation, June 18, 1971. Southwest served Houston (Bush) until 1972 and again between 1980 and 2005.
Since landing in Houston, the airline has grown to become one of the largest employers in the city, employing nearly 4,000 People. Additionally, the carrier has also grown to become Hobby Airport’s largest airline, offering up to 161 flights a day to nearly 70 destinations across the United States, Caribbean, and Latin America.

Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport in Jackson, Mississippi
Also returning to the Southwest map in 2021 is Jackson, MS, with service beginning June 6, 2021. Southwest previously served Jackson from 1997 to 2014.

More Dots, Fun Spots!
As you can see, our Network Planning team has been hard at work constantly evaluating new travel opportunities for our Customers to enjoy. We will continue to connect you, our Customers, to the People and places that are important in your lives. When we’re not adding new cities to our network, we’re searching for areas to expand and improve our operations and service. That being said, we’re excited to continue growing in Long Beach, CA by almost doubling our daily departures on most days of the week.
Starting March 11, 2021, we’re adding daily service from Long Beach (LGB) to Houston (Hobby), Chicago (Midway), St. Louis, Reno/Tahoe, and Dallas (Love Field)! This growth allows for better travel opportunities and is available for sale at Southwest.com.
New Flights to International Sites
Time to dust off your passport! Southwest will resume daily nonstop service on March 11, 2021, between Houston (Hobby) and Cozumel, Mexico, and between both Houston (Hobby) and Chicago (Midway) and Montego Bay, Jamaica, and weekly service on Saturdays between both Columbus, Ohio and San Antonio and Cancun.
In March 2021, we will add a third destination in Mexico nonstop from our newest international gateway in Phoenix. Effective March 12, 2021, Southwest will offer once-daily nonstop service between Phoenix and Cancun, joining our existing service from Phoenix to both Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta. While we’re starting to nail down our Halloween costumes, it’s never too soon to start thinking about those spring vacations you deserve. Today, Southwest schedules were extended through June 8, 2019, giving us the opportunity to start planning for a long Memorial Day weekend! Let’s take a look at what we have in store.
One of my favorite vacation spots–the Florida panhandle–is seeing the return of seasonal flying to Pensacola with daily nonstop service from Dallas/Love Field and Saturday-only service from Kansas City. Grab your sunscreen and flip-flops and get ready to feel the relaxing, powdery sand between your toes!
Speaking of beaches, international excitement continues into April with Saturday-only nonstop service to Cancún returning from New Orleans.
On what some call the Best Coast, I mean, West Coast, we continue to add more LUV to California with NEW Sunday nonstop service linking San Jose with El Paso. With this new addition, we will hit an exciting milestone at San Jose with 100 departures Monday through Friday! Also returning to San Jose in April are Saturday departures from New Orleans.
Don’t forget–our new October routes are about to take flight! In a few days, we’ll be able to fly nonstop between Nashville and Oklahoma City. From Houston Hobby, our daily flights to Louisville and Columbus will make their debut. Lastly, from Denver we’ll be able to fly nonstop to El Paso and Memphis.
As the weather starts to cool down for fall, our April schedule will start to sound more enticing. Being from Dallas, I know I won’t need to pull out my winter gear for at least a few more weeks, but that won’t stop me from dreaming about what beaches to visit to escape the coming “cold” weather here in Texas!
As with every schedule release, you will see additional capacity adjustments throughout the network reflected in the summary below. If you have any comments or questions, feel free to post below. Happy booking!
