A cardboard box is acceptable. As a community member, I guarantee it. (humor.) What I shall classify as non-standard luggage, something which does not have a handle, is probably OK unless it is an International flight in December. SW invokes their EMBARGO without advance notice every year. You will find several posts on this subject in these community pages; Search for them. A duffle bag is Okay also. A cooler, well, you don't want the lid opening. As for the box, max volume is via 21 inches on each side and I stongly urge you use a thick walled one least it split open. Happy to go into more detail if anyone wants to private message me on crush-strength or using lots of sealing/duct tape.

I just recently updated the app and now I no longer recieve the boarding pass within the app (which I hear was enhanced visually). When I click "view boarding pass" the app takes me to Wallet now without having a pass within the app. It still works but kind of annoying that I have to go to the Wallet everytime I click on it instead of opening it within the app. Is this a glitch?

@MrsK wrote: Can I check my car seat in it’s original box? The checked baggage policy says no boxes but I want my car seat to be protected. Do you have the citation for that one? I thought boxes within the size allowance were okay. We bought a second travel car seat for ~$60 and if it gets damaged, we aren't out as much as the super-duper model got crushed. (Having traveled with it 40+ times it has been well worth it.) FWIW we also have traveled using the blue Southwest bags to avoid scuffing and while we've had to replace a couple of the bags, the seat has held up great. As @chgoflyer has pointed out on several other posts - unfortunately the policy that you sign would reimburse you for loss, but not for damage - so showing up at baggage claim with a mashed bag of parts would be your loss, but if the seat somehow went missing they would reimburse, so maybe the risk is too high in your view for the damage.

Here is the response I received using "Contact Us". Unfortunately, it merely regurgitates the policy from the website and is quiet useless in addressing my specific questions. Dear kevin, We certainly thank you for being proactive in contacting us to inquire about our policies. We appreciate the opportunity to respond. Our bags fly free policy allows each ticketed Customer to check two pieces of baggage at no additional charge (size and weight limitations apply). Customers may substitute certain types of sporting equipment for one of the two free pieces of checked baggage. If the item exceeds 50 pounds in weight or 62 inches in size (outside length plus height plus width), excess weight and size charges may apply. We also have packing requirements for certain types of equipment. We will accept Kayaks (other than a sea kayak) as checked baggage for a $75.00 each way charge. The paddle(s) must be secure. For information about how to pack sporting equipment, click here and select “Sports Equipment” from the menu options. We appreciate your business, and hope you have a great day! Sincerely, Nichole, Southwest Airlines The file reference number for your email is 2304533642155.

That is a lot to take in, my only hope is that treatment for your wife goes well. Southwest partners with hospitals and organizations nationwide, this is the link with additional information. In page includes the following , "...patients and/or caregivers seeking assistance need to contact the program partners directly, using the links or contact information listed below, as each partner has its own guidelines for administration of these tickets." As this is a public forum you may also want to edit your post to remove your personal information (click the gear icon at the top right section of your post).

@surflesssoul wrote: I'm having the same insane issues too. My 12yr old daughter is my designated companion and b/c champion pass tickets do not receive the same ticketed confirmation number, and b/c companions are likely never to achieve the same status that is frequent/business travels earn (otherwise they'd be able to earn their own companion status), it makes no sense that companions cannot board together with their statused partners. It's not much of a loyalty rewards program when you squeeze your most loyal customers for more money to buy preferential boarding for their companions, or to pass the buck onto other customers and hope for someone to be understanding and compassionate enough to agree to switch seats to allow companions to sit with their partners... What's most unnerving is gate agents suggestions that their statused travels board with their companions at the back of the line (C boarding) all but guarentteeing no chance of sitting together on fully booked flights unless another passenger is open to giving up their preferred window/aisle seat for a middle seat. My 12yr old was spot on when she questioned, "Why do they even call it a 'companion pass' when you can't sit together?". Yeah, we're technically on the same plane, but we might as well be flying on different airlines... which may be the smart solution where other airlines offer more tangible rewards for their loyal customers like upgrades and lounge access. Why SWA doesn't implement the simple solution of providing companions boarding positions with their rewards partners is utterly asinine. Since this is a customer to customer forum, it is possible that your suggestion will not be resolved here. I'd suggest sending an e-mail to the airline. To do so click on "contact ys" at the bottom of this page and then pick e-mail from the contact options listed on the top left of the ensuing page. In the meantime, you could pick early bird check in for your daughter, and then you could board with her as a a likely high A or low B postition. ALterntively she could buy an A1-A15 spot at the gate. Yeah, it'll cost you some money. Is a free $200 or $300 ticket coupled with $25 spent still a good enough deal?

We have a Diono Rainier - we bought it due to the fact that it was approved for flying, and it's a narrow convertible seat that folds for carrying. Best purchase I could've made, especially since we are starting to fly more.

Does the $75 charge begin at 63inches or 62.1inches? My guess is that you'll be fine. The official line is 62.00001 inches would be subject to the fee. The reality, IMO, is that .6 inches is a rounding error that no one will notice.. As others have said make sure you aren;t counting the wheels in your measurement. They don't count towards the 62 inches.

I wish that this was more acceptable. As a person who uses a cochlear implant, it's near impossible to lipread on flights. When I fly alone, I'm always on edge because I have to be aware every second because if I'm not, I might miss something. I do wish that SW had their safety briefing on their app as a video. I flew United a few months ago and was so relieved to see that they provided the safety briefing, captioned, at the beginning of every flight. Now, they have screens on the back of each seat, but even if it this was added to SW's main in flight page, it would be so appreciated!

I called the main baggage hotline and they offered to reimburse me on essentials if needed. I also tweeted at them for some extra attention. Good news is that our bags finally made it, after going through Florida. I was offered a $50 travel voucher for picking them up at the airport myself. Unfortunately, one of my suitcases was missing a wheel but I was offered an additional $75 travel voucher. I’m satisfied!

@UnhappyWithSWA wrote: I checked in at STL. The lady who checked is very competent and nice. I had to fly through Chicago Midway. She put the purplish 'Transfer' tag on my bag, and put it on its way on the belt. ... First, I had my baggage claim ticket ready and in-hand before I went into the office. I promptly gave it to the available agent. I told her my bag didn't arrive. She starts looking in computer. Then she answers the phone. Then the other agent comes over and takes over her computer session. "Oh, I was looking up his bag... " Total lack of focus, and total chaos, even though there was only one other family in there, looking for their bags. Finally, I get my bag. It was in the back room. The one agent quote the shelf number that it was on. So what I'm almost certain happen is that when I checked my bag in STL for a final destination of DCA, the bag went on the direct flight from STL to DCA. I had to fly to Chicago. So my bag sat there in DCA for 2 hours or so. Why no text me? Why not have the baggage claim office, who was not that busy, bring the bag out.? I feel like you robbed me of 40 minutes of sleep. It is academic now, but it would be interesting to have the baggage office confirm that this was what happened by them putting the luggage onto the direct flight. I suppose they could do that although I haven't heard of it being typical - people expect their baggage to come on the carousel for their own flight and as far as I know that's the normal procedure. Maybe there could be some other possibilty that the baggage arrived at DCA with you and for whatever reason came to the baggage office by a different route. Anyway - to answer your question I haven't heard of a customized text alert in the way you describe, although if the office there had a quiet moment the agent there could call you to say that they have your luggage. Make sure you have your number written on a luggage tag otherwise there would be several extra steps for them to confirm your identity and then lookup the phone number in your booking, which may or may not be your mobile phone number, etc... Maybe this could be added in the future for enhanced functionality. I know I received a poll once from Southwest about possible future feature additions and several of the questions were about luggage.

On July 10 Southwest plans to open the schedule thru 3/6. That date is subject to change. Dates later in March will likely open roughly a month later. As far as whether or not SW will fly from Omaha to Turks at that time, no one here has information that would allow us to answer the question. A good rule of thumb would be if the airline doesn;t provide the route earlier in the winter, it's not likely to do so in February/March. The only way to know for sure is to wait for the schedule to drop,
