I think it's a good move to ditch the jackets. I guess that bag receipts will have to be stapled to boarding passes in the future. I can't remember the last time I got a ticket jacket, so it's been over a decade. Of course I almost never check bags.

Absolutely! You can check in on the app, and then when you get to the airport: - use a self-service kiosk to print your boarding pass, or - have the agent who checks your bag (if applicable) print the boarding pass for you. Have your confirmation number handy for the self service kiosk or your ID handy if you work with an agent. Happy travels!

I am having the same issue, I'm so frustrated, I have waited to book my hawaii flight for over thanksgiving, and have my outbound flight booked, but cannot find anything for when I want to return. There are NO flights available on the 30th (unless I break up my trip, which at that point it just becomes exhausting), and the ones on the 29th and 1st are sold out (only one option both days). The only option I found was one that flew into Oakland flight #: 2870 and lands at 4:15, and then a connecting flight back to MCI at 5:15 or something...but flight 2870 shows as sold out when searching for it independently, but it shows up as the first leg of an itinerary that ends up in LAX, which i find interesting??? can someone help me understand that? Obviously the demand is there as I tried booking the day they extended the dates out, but I'm pretty frustrated because all of the prices are EXTREMELY high right now on other airlines, so i fear I missed my deadline to get an affordable flight. I have my companion pass, hundreds of thousands of SW points, etc. just want to be able to have more flight options, I've been looking forward to the hawaii trips SO much as I knew we were going in 2019!

Yesterday, I was able to book several trips around Thanksgiving 2019 at WGA prices. I haven’t looked for the Christmas holidays, but @dfwskier has summed up the options quite nicely.

Can yo please be a bit more specific? thank you, Rafael Can you clarify if you are adding a lap child, or are you buying a new ticket for a minor child? When you start the process to buy the ticket for the minor, it should eventually ask you who the adult traveling with the child is and enter your confirmation number.

@drano21 wrote: The reason stated for the cancellation was mechanical (MX). I asked how I would go about reimbursement for tickets we had for that evening. I was told that they do not reimburse for any costs incurred due to the cancellation. Any thoughts? I presume you had tickets for some type of entertainment that evening for an event you missed due to the cancellation. As was stated above, you should call the airline's customer relations department. E-mail or tiwtter are also options. Click on contact us at the bottom of this page and then pick your contact option from the top left of the ensuing page. Don't expect a cash rembursement. You'd probably get vouchers you can use for future travel. Every airline provides compensaton for flights cancelled for reasons under control of the airlines' (MX being one ). Things like meal vouchers are frequently given. If the situation involves an overnight stay, so are hotel vouchers. Sometimes vouchers are given just becasue of the inconveneince of the situation. SOmetimes you have to ask.

You can find details about check baggage allowances and fees here. Specifically: Southwest will accept the first two checked bags for free provided that the bags do not exceed 50 lbs and 62 inches (L+W+H). Overweight items from 50 to 100 pounds and oversized items in excess of 62 inches but not more than 80 inches will be accepted for a charge of $75 per item. Only one $75.00 charge applies if the piece is both oversized and overweight, regardless of the weight as long as it does not exceed 100 lbs. Excess baggage which is also overweight or oversized will be charged excess baggage plus the applicable oversize or overweight charge. Sporting Equipment includes windsurfing/surf boards, vaulting poles, non-motorized bicycles (62 inches or less and less than 50 pounds), life rafts, javelin, kayak. (emphasis mine) More detail available here as well. As far as the straps and securing the bags for checking go, I would ensure the straps are tightened as much as possible and that there is nothing hanging on the outside of the bags that might get caught up as the bag travels through the airport and in the plane. I did a quick Google search, and found this that might be helpful!

As great as Southwest is for Customers, there's limitations on "in-flight wifi", even if you were to fly first-class on another airlines. Give Southwest a break, they are pretty **bleep** good about upgrading technology as it becomes available. Just my two cents. Thanks Rusty Shaffer CEO www.seatamigo.com

As one who wants to apply for a Flight Attendant position, I have figured there won't be any openings until those aircraft are back in the rotation, the effect on those flight crews must be a burden for the airlines. That's hard to say - the aircraft grounding accounts for 5% of previously scheduled flights had heard more or less - anyway I don't know the annual turnover on FA's but if it is more than 5% then there could still be opportunities so I wouldn't stop looking necessarily.

I have a similar problem but without the error message, SW is useless. Within the 24 hour restriction, using either the SW app (most current version) or going to the SW web site on my iphone (current ios), I cannot check-in but get a error message which says ths reservation is not eligible for check-in. But if I go to the hotel's pc and goto the SW web site I can check-in with no problem. But by then I have a poor boarding position.

I too have had luck getting one other person through the fly by lane when only one of the two has status. I highly doubt TSA cares who uses the lane, and most of the time I have used it the lanes merge at the ID check point so as to make it impossible to tell which line you came from. Yes, you will inevitably irritate someone in line for "cheating" the system. --TheMiddleSeat

If it was booked as a round-trip, I suggest calling customer service. I am fairly sure that you can only cancel the back half of a round trip ticket online AFTER you have traveled the first half. That was one of the reasons that I started booking a lot of one way tickets on routes where I might have a change. safe travels, especially on the road trip.

@elijahbrantley wrote: While there may not be a "policy," I have seen that happen many times before, and every time, I have seen the gate agent kindy remind the person that they are in the wrong group and will need to wait for the appropriate time. You should certainly compare positions with anyone around you. I think you posted a portion of this story on another thread - the new info here is that B40 was boarding with her friend who presumably was in the correct A-number position? So in that case it is obviously someone who knows they are sneaking in, which my other advice about letting someone know in case they aren't aware of how boarding works, etc. etc. wouldn't apply. There isn't a great option here, I haven't ever seen anyone notify the gate agent about someone cheating. Often if they catch them then they get bumped back, but if they are in a mode of scanning, scanning, scanning then they will just go through, I haven't seen any evidence that the scanning software itself would make an alert for someone out of order. This is probably even tougher on mobile boarding passes since the gate agent wouldn't see the position until it was already scanned. In a practical sense if the A-person was going to save a seat for the B-person anyway, then it's somewhat academic for one person to do this that would be sitting in a middle seat anyway. All I can suggest in this case is letting the gate agent know that you saw someone sneak through, maybe they'll take that as an incentive to be more stringent on future flights.

Thanks so much for the thoughtful and intelligent reply. Unfortunately it doesn't ease the pain of losing the miles. I may take your suggestion and reach out to Gary Kelly. Safe travels to you, hopefully on an airline that values its customer base.

@Lmkel68 wrote: The only issue I had was a B40 person boarding in front of mein my A40 spot. I think they should make sure people board where they are supposed to board @TheMiddleSeat wrote: @Lmkel68 buying it as early as possible before your flight does help, but I'm curious what you weren't pleased with? High A and single digit B boarding positions aren't too shabby, especially if it's a heavy business traveler (A-List) route. Impossible to say what you would have received without EBCI but for not having to remember to check-in exactly 24 hours prior, those boarding positions seem pretty good to me. --TheMiddleSeat Feel free to point it out if you see someone obviously not following the program, in some cases these may be simply unaware and then the gate agent will either catch them or not. Othertimes it may be someone deliberately trying to sneak on, and again either caught or not but if you point it out maybe they'll give up the attempt. A third case might be that they asked for some special dispensation to board with someone else which may be given sometimes, i.e. their spouse was right in front or something. Anyway - it doesn't have to be confrontational, just ask the person what their position is as you are trying to decide if you are in front or in back of them, just the facts. If they say "B40" then maybe they just need help getting to the right spot. Either way it would be behind you and the next person behind you can have the same negotiation if necessary.

@Jwalsh3rd wrote: ...I asked why we had boarded precisely at 5:30 AM, given that the plane only had fifty passengers and the process would only take ten minutes at most. The Gate Agent explained (very nicely) that because the flight was a connecting flight at the next stop that the plane was loaded to follow policy and ensure the connection was timely. I think this is a very good policy and now that I know that, I will give up five minutes of sleep to ensure I board in my designated place. My wife and I had an experience at LAS one time where we got to the gate and were surprised at 30 minutes til that the prior flight was just wrapping up boarding. Asking the gate agent -- it was our flight!!! Whoops - due to weather and other factors they had decided to load early and we were the last to board at T-30 and push off. We didn't sit together, A-list numbers were long-gone by the time we boarded as well as family boarding.

Book the same fare (WGA) for both your primary seat and the extra seat. Then contact Southwest after the flight to request the refund of the extra seat fare. The only time you might want to book the extra seat as a childs fare is when you're booking Business Select or Anytime as your primary seat.

Hey Elijah! Thanks for replying. Actually, no, I am not a last minute traveler. I'm a planner. I like to plan my travel at least a month in advance. The rates and the routes out of ORF are just oppressive. I literally feel stuck here. My only alternative is to drive an hour and a half to Richmond, VA for a little better flight options. Or three hour to Dulles International. Still feeling stuck in ORF, S.H.H.

@Carneypatrick wrote: Just wondering why the gate agents stopped taking the boarding pass after it was read by the bar code scanner. It would be great if they had a barrel to dispose the boarding pass afterwards. Clean paper products on-board can be recycled, give it to the FA once you are settled. I second the opinion that you might as well hold onto it through the end of your flight though. Why they stopped taking it - some business travelers need it as proof that they actually traveled, and they didn't need it for any purpose I think it was collected mainly for convenience of not having pieces of paper litter the airplane more than any operational cross-check. Also in the rare occasion that a flight would be boarded and then be delayed in a way that everyone was sent back to the concourse, no one would have boarding passes. And it was obviously not necessary with so many people using electronic passes anyway.
