So what happens if I check in on a airport keosk a couple of hours before my flight what are the chances of getting a decent boarding position doing it that late ? Your boarding position was determined when you bought early boarding. You'll be fine getting your boarding pass at the airport a few hours before flight time. Just be sure you are at the gate and ready to board when your boarding position is set to board.

Yes, you can take it, but only as checked luggage. TSA rules govern the situation: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/transporting-firearms-and-ammunition

One thing that I have found good to do is to check in on line or by phone close to 24 hours before departure. It is not necessary to print the boarding pass, but it gives the traveler a chance to check on the status and let's the airline know you are still good to go. Traveler Tip: When you do not have Early Boarding it is especially important to check in by phone or on line as soon as the 24 hour period begins so that your boarding pass is issued at the lowest number possible. You do not have to print it when you check-in but it puts you in the queue.

If you didn't have EBCI, then you still would check in for the first flight and get boarding passes for both - since you are a little bit ahead of the 24-hour time for the second flight your connecting flight will tend to have better boarding position than your originating flight, subject to several other variables that could make it higher or lower position.

Family Boarding doesn't happen before A, it happens after the A group, before the B group. Here's the full boarding order: Preboards BS and Upgraded Boarding: A1-15 A-Listers, EBCI, the lucky, and 24 hour check in (possibly): A16-60 A-Listers who didn't get an A pass, Family Boarding: After A, before B More EBCI (possibly) and 24 hour check in: B1-60 Everyone else: C1-60ish, give or take Someone with a B60 position will be -- depending on the number of preboards and, often more importantly, the number of people using Family Boarding -- anywhere between approximately the 110th to 140th person to board. 737-300s & 700s hold 143 passengers, the 800s hold 175. The number of thru passengers will also directly affect your seat choices.

There are no asigned seats. Purchase your family member a ticket, then 24 hrs before your flight you will check in. You will receive your boarding group letter and number . If a passenger is assigned position A16 and wants to board with a passenger assigned position A45, the passenger holding the A16 boarding pass should board with the A45 passenger. Good Luck!
