A Decade of Friendship

Several weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending the wedding of my dear friend Jennifer to Mike. At the reception, I was able to reconnect with friends I had not seen in years. As we started catching up, we realized that we share in a decade of friendship. We all started as freshman at Lipscomb University in the fall of 1997. Over the last ten years, we have experienced weddings, funerals, births, showers and many more milestone events. We all met in Nashville, Tennessee, but since that time we have moved to Ohio, Georgia, Texas, Wisconsin, Florida, Missouri, Brazil and China. Given our geographical distance, we still get together to celebrate milestones with each other most times thanks to Southwest Airlines. When we don't have a milestone to celebrate, we get together just for fun. One year we went to Ft. Myers on a great Southwest Airlines  fare. Most of us are married and building our families, but we still enjoy time together with old friends. Any of you plan trips just to get together with old friends? We'd love suggestions of trips we should take.

Last July, my buddy Shannon and I flew Southwest from Houston (HOU) to Reno (RNO) and drove from there to Yosemite National Park. Being amateur photographers, Yosemite was a place we felt the need to see, as a pilgrimage of sorts to the masters like Ansel Adams. Shannon and met in high school in 1995 and he was the Best Man in my wedding in 2001. Southwest made it possible for us to catch up with each other and make the trip to see the those great natural wonders.

I COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT BETTER AND I HAVE ALWAYS SAID THERE IS NOT A DOLLAR AMOUNT ON THE VALUE OF FREE TRAVEL. I CAN ASSURE YOU MOST OF OUR PARENTS WOULD NEVER HAD VENTURED OFF AND SEEN THE BIRTHS, GRADUATIONS, SPORTING EVENTS, BIRTHDAYS AND OTHER MILESTONES. I AM ONE OF 8 AND THIS WONDERFUL JOB HAS KEPT US IN TOUCH THROUGHOUT THE YEARS AND IT IS A THRILL TO HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER ENJOY MY BUDDY PASSES AND GET TO SE MY FOLKS. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES.

I'm making the short hop this weekend from DAL to AUS for a family reunion. Thanks to SWA, I don't have to drive!

Hmmm, my last travel with Southwest for vacation/family plans was not that pleasant. The luggage got lost and the airport assistant couldn't care less. You know, with all the low-cost airlines out there, I would expect better service than the one I got from Southwest.

My best friend lives in DC and I'm in Dallas at Headquarters - so we've found Disney World is a good meeting place! I send her (and her daughter) a buddy pass and we have a yearly reunion at the Mouse House!

It takes me a shorter amount of time to fly Southwest from LAX to see my Family in PHX than it does for some of my Phoenix family to drive and see each other! Thanks to this great Company, I see them often. In fact, we just celebrated my dear Italian Grandma's 92nd birthday! Happy B-Day Grandma...

Hollee, Wow, what an exciting and inspiring story! It brings tears to my eyes and just makes me drool with jealousy!! Not because of the trips you've taken or the friends you've stay connected with, but because you've only been out of college for ten years! LOL 🙂 Think how old I feel knowing that my son is living in the same dorm I did at UT... But, Southwest has provided my family many wonderful trips over the years. Due to my travel, I used to earn at least four free (Rapid Rewards) tickets per year, and with those, the four of us got to go to lots of places. BOI got us in driving distance of Yellowstone National Park. ABQ got us started on a driving trip that included the Petrified Forest and Grand Canyon National Parks, with a return flight home through LAS. A flight to MDW was the jumping off point for a large family reunion in Milwaukee, and BWI was the gateway to our nation's capital. The acquisition of Morris Air opened up SEA to us and helped us visit many family members in the Pacific Northwest, and closer to home, CRP was just two quick flights from home. And, all of this was during the Wright Amendment days, but those reward tickets allowed us to check our bags all the way to our final destination -- just one more perk of flying for free! Lots of vacations, lots and lots of photographs and hundreds of bags of peanuts later, we were sure glad that we were free to move about the country! Kim External Blog Boy 🙂

Hollee, I just visited with two couples who are thir;ty-seven year friends from our Air Force days. We were in Las Vegas at the same time and found out by email we would have this opportunity. These visits are priceless! With our special fares there's no excuse not to visit friends and loved ones. Carole

I need to fly to Dallas for one day for a funeral with my elderly parents. My father just had a knee replacement and it is too hard for him to sit in the car for the 5 hours there and 5 hours back. I was surprised to hear that Southwest did not have bereavement prices.
