A Flight Come True

Johnny Williams has always dreamed of flying, but because his family preferred driving, he had never had the opportunity.  At 83 years old, he still hadn’t flown in a plane and looked out the window over the clouds—until recently. After Johnny was diagnosed with cancer, his daughter, Jennifer, decided to make Johnny’s dream come true.  They arrived at the Nashville Southwest ticket counter excited to purchase impromptu roundtrip tickets to Kansas City and to share his story with us.  I was ecstatic to be a part of Johnny’s experience, and the Nashville Team and I had such fun making it an unforgettable one. The Nashville Team did an incredible job of making Johnny’s first flight experience special—they pulled out all the stops!  As we began boarding in Nashville, we made a special announcement in the gate area and presented him with a 1st Time Flyer certificate.  We took him down to meet the flight crew and helped him board early to get a window seat up front.  When we got onboard, the Flight Crew was so excited to welcome him and invited him into the cockpit. I am proud to work for a Company that is dedicated to the highest quality of Customer Service delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride, and Company Spirit.  I am proud that because of our low fares, Johnny and Jennifer were able to show up last-minute and make Johnny’s dream come true without a hassle. Our very Purpose at Southwest Airlines is to connect People to what’s important in their lives through friendly, reliable, and low-cost air travel.  I am so happy that we were able to do just that for Johnny, and I had so much fun getting to be part of his experience.
