Airlines Improve On-Time Performance in February

U.S. carriers in 2009 recorded their best February on-time performance in seven years, with 82.6 percent of flights arriving within 14 minutes of schedule, the U.S. Department of Transportation said.

The February numbers were the highest since 2002 when airlines said 84.7 percent of their flights arrived on schedule or with 14 minutes.

Leading the group was Hawaiian Airlines Inc. with 91.2 percent, followed by Southwest Airlines Co. at 88.3 percent. At the bottom was Alaska Airlines Inc. at 76.3 percent.
