Bringing in the Fourth

We asked our Blog Team for their July 4th plans, and we wanted to share them with you. Gordon Guillory:  This 4th of July my plans are to hang out on my patio with family and friends, cooking out and drinking cold adult beverages. David Evans: My sister's town has a beautiful fireworks display, so our entire family gathers at her home for fun and food; then we all go to Main Street for a musical fireworks extravaganza...Family, Food & Fireworks to celebrate America's Freedom. Mary Noel Hennes: This year the 4th of July falls on my "weekend," so I'll be spending the day the best way I've known how since I was in grade school--being in close proximity to some of my favorite things: Water, fireworks, friends, and--with any luck--homemade potato salad.  And cupcakes with sprinkles on them. Ray Stark: I'll be flying to the nation's capital before heading down to spend the evening in the capital of Texas. Sunny Abercrombie: My husband, John, and I will be sailing on Notre Vie from Clear Lake to Port Aransas, Texas! Hollee Ford: I'll be enjoying the holiday with my family on the lake.  Hopefully I'll be able to land a few wicked tricks on my wakeboard. Jeff Lamb: I'll be walking to the bagel shop for coffee and actually reading the entire newspaper.  We always cookout burgers and watch fireworks in the evening. Susie Boersma: On the 4th, I will be working in San Antonio and walking the station Team through the results of of our Redefining Excellence observations.  Since we have a Team away from home doing this, we'll probably spend some time together after work eating BBQ and enjoying the night sky. James Malone: I will be attending the Taste of Chicago with some friends on July 4th. Paco Cerda: I'll be helping everyone ELSE make their 4th of July plans! Ming Chan: On July 4th, I will be celebrating America's freedom by working at the Dallas Love Field Airport.  I usually work on July 4th, and when I am finished I go up to the top of the Love Field parking garage and watch all the fireworks around Dallas at the same time.  It is spectacular!!!!!! Bert Stevens: I have to work the night of the 4th, but will spend the day with my wife and kids swimming and grilling. Fred Taylor: I  plan to be at Lone Star Park swilling bourbon and watching the Thoroughbreds go around the track! Shelley Logan: I'll be spending the week at the beach in northern Michigan with some of my favorite people: my sister, Amy, and her two kids, Ava (age 5) and Max (age two). Jill Howard Allen: We celebrate the 4th by cranking John Philip Sousa's 'Stars and Stripes Forever', Adriene Belew's 'One of those Days' and David Byrne's 'Independence Day' and then join my sibilings at my sister's pool to cool off in the Phoenix heat. Bill Owen: If the weather's nice, I plan to try and bring two things to a golden brown--chicken breasts and my skin! Those are our plans, so how are you planning to celebrate the Fourth?

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY.... While i cannot tell you by exact plans (I WILL IN FUTURE POSTS) i will be celebrating the fourth in a very special way. Last year we were in port San Diego and we opened up our flight deck to family and friends. we all watched the fireworks in San Diego Bay and Sea world. This year even though we are deployed the fourth of July means more to me than years past. Hopefully one day this region of the world can live in total freedom and celebrate their freedoms just like we do.. USS BLOG BOY

Ah - we just finalized Wednesday's plans. I'm going to get up and cook my wonderful wife a big breakfast. We are going to see the earliest showing of "Live Free Or Die Hard" Then back home to lounge around. A light lunch. Steaks for dinner. Then, as we do every Fourth of July, we will go out on our balcony. From there we can see not one, not two, but three amazing fireworks displays, all within a two mile radius.

The perk of going to medical school in the Caribbean - no summer off. But wait, there's more - since we're on a Dutch island, no break for Independence Day...well, at least not for the AMERICAN Independence Day :( So this 4th of July, I'll be going to classes as normal, studying for exams, and then reading all the emails from my friends as they describe the amazing things they did an ocean away in celebration of our freedom...including the freedom to study medicine in another beautiful island country :) My prayers and thanks to all the great women and men who VOLUNTEER to allow the rest of us these great freedoms.

I just received a mailing list blast headlining the "Fourth of July" so i clicked to your blog looking for a place to leave comments. To my not-so-much suprise, I found that even the Southwest Manager of Customer Communication and Corporate Editor is blogging about the same 'Fourth'. I'm pretty sure that Independence Day is the correct and proper name for the upcoming holiday. Let's not forget what we are celebrating here. It would be nice if you would use your mailing list to remind people of that. And tell your marketing people to get a little more creative than to jump on board with the same old underinformed colloquialisms that everyone continues to schlep around. Wouldn't Independence go well with "you are now FREE to move about the country"??!!!! In fact, the only mention of "Independence" in this entire blog string is in the name of a song. At least David Byrne knows what he's talking about. Happy Independence Day. I'm glad I'm free to leave comments like this.

Hi Dylan Thanks for the comments, but for all of my 54 years, I have always heard July 4th, the Fourth of July, and Independence Day used interchangably. FYI, Colleen will be contributing a post tomorrow, and she uses Independence Day. Brian

For the first time in several years, I was at home for the 4th - what a GREAT feeling of INDEPENDENCE and FREEDOM that was. Much as I enjoy commuting on Southwest between Idaho and Northern California, being at home and able to relax was fantastic. In the evening, I went out on San Francisco Bay in a sailboat - and had a unique and stirring view of the fireworks. Hopefully, that will be something Southwest can publicize in the future - a SUPER way to spend the 4th of July in San Francisco (and we didn't have fog, either!!!). I LUV that you're serving all three Bay Area airports again - it gives me lots more choices and ways to LUV Southwest.

On Tuesday, July 3rd I was on Flight 2628 from Omaha, Ne to Chicago Midway. I just wanted to take a moment to let you know what a wonderful experience I had on this flight because of the Flight Attendant--Dijana. She made the Flight so pleasureable . Dijana made us feel very comfortable and at ease with her sense of humor and lightheartedness. I will gladly recommend SouthWest to all my friends--so long as Dijana is the Flight Attendant. Sincerely, A SW Customer Betty Menze

Debbie, This is a great place to work. If you will visit the Careers page at southwest.com, it will list the positions for which we are accepting resumes. You can fill your resume out online, and we accept only resumes for specific job positions. That's to your benefit because a general resume could literally be buried under thousands of other resumes. Be honest with your resume, and highlight your past experience that would be helpful in the position for which you are applying. Brian
