With the fall season now upon us, our heads have become filled with thoughts of fall foliage, cooler temperatures, and enjoying pumpkin-flavored, well, everything. To go along with these seasonal changes, Southwest is pleased to announce new destinations to our network. So, go grab that pumpkin spice coffee and muffin and let us take you a journey!

New Dots, Fun Spots!

At the beginning of September, Southwest announced our intent to serve both Palm Springs, CA (PSP) and Miami, FL (MIA). Well, today is the day both destinations are now bookable on Southwest.com! Hurry and book now for fares as low as $39 one-way! (Full fares rules and terms and conditions are available on Southwest.com.)

Year-round service to PSP and MIA will commence on November 15, offering Customers access to two new destinations, which complement our existing route system exceptionally well. Nonstop service will be offered from:

  • PSP – Denver, CO (DEN), Oakland, CA (OAK), and Phoenix, AZ (PHX)
  • MIA – Baltimore, MD (BWI), Chicago, IL (MDW), Houston, TX (HOU), and Tampa, FL (TPA)

But that’s not all! For those of you who are already looking past fall and ready for that snowy, winter weather, we’re pleased to announce the addition of another new destination to the Southwest network: Montrose (Telluride), CO (MTJ). Located in Western Colorado, Montrose serves as the gateway to Telluride, CO, and its world-class skiing. Similar to Steamboat Springs, CO (HDN), Montrose service will be seasonal, starting on December 19 with daily service to DEN and weekend-only service to DAL. Service will run through April 5, giving our Customers ample time to hit the slopes and enjoy everything Western Colorado has to offer!

Southwest Airlines announces new service to Montrose (Telluride), CO. Flights to Montrose, as well as previously announced service to Steamboat Springs (Hayden), CO, beginning Dec. 19, 2020Southwest Airlines announces new service to Montrose (Telluride), CO. International Service Milestones

The fun continues as today marks a major milestone for one of the largest (and hottest) destinations in our network: PHX. Our first International service from Sky Harbor International Airport begins today, with daily service to San Jose del Cabo, Mexico (SJD), and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (PVR). These additions further our commitment to the Valley of the Sun and taking Phoenicians where they want to go (especially when they want to escape that dry heat!)

Today also marks the return of Southwest to PVR for the first time since international operations were halted in late-March due to border closures and travel restrictions imposed because of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Customers will once again be able to access all Puerto Vallarta has to offer, including its famous beaches situated on the Pacific Ocean’s Bahia de Banderas. Initial service is being offered from PHX and HOU, both of which will provide ample connecting opportunities for Customers throughout the Network.

Schedule Revisions

In addition to our new destinations, Southwest is pleased to add new routes to our schedule.

  • Get excited—we are adding 18 new routes, including six new routes in HOU. HOU will see new service to Cincinnati (CVG), Cleveland (CLE), Detroit (DTW), Fort Myers (RSW), Reno (RNO), and Wichita, KS (ICT).
  • In 2021, Stations such as Cincinnati (CVG), Detroit (DTW), and Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP) will see new or returning service to warmer-weather destinations to the south.

As we move forward and focus on our ability to adapt during these challenging times, Southwest will continue to monitor the current and future aviation landscape and adjust schedules as necessary to offer our Customers great connections, a comfortable journey with unmatched flexibility, and of course, our friendly policies. This is great!  Was Montrose/Telluride previously announced like Steamboat was?  I guess I missed it or this is a wonderful surprise.

Was so excited to book tickets into Steamboat (HDN) for family of 6 (including two young children).  Booked our tickets 8/26/2020 for trip arriving in Steamboat 12/31/2020.  According to my account log in our flights have now been changed - still waiting on the email notification🙄  IF new info is correct we now arrive in Denver 20 minutes after our flight leaves Denver for Steamboat.....This has never happened to me - but our 4 1/2 hour flight is now over 8 hours long.....and we still can't make the connection - waiting to hear back from customer service....HOPE the future flights into Steamboat and Montrose via Denver work better for customers trying to get to Denver!!  I feel like we have been 'sucker punched' into flying the 'new' route.....but now our flight that was advertised and booked is not available to get to Denver...#NotAHappyCustomer
