Happy Thanksgiving, Y'All

We have three special Thanksgiving posts for you below.  Francisco Delgado, who began blogging with us last year at this time, is back home safe and sound and very thankful.  His post reminds us that many of our loved ones will be away this Thanksgiving.  Bob Hurst shares his mom's poignant Thanksgiving memory from her childhood, and his mom's story serves as a reminder to be thankful for what we do have.  Kim Delevett talks about her own childhood, which of itself is a remarkable story, and her thanks for her large family.  Because many of you (and some of us) will be on vacation Thanksgiving week, we won't be posting new material, but we will be moderating your comments all week.   Here's hoping you have a great Thanksgiving, and we will see you on Monday, November 26. Again, please keep these posts on topic.  If you would like to comment about our boarding changes, please go to Gary Kelly's video post or Kevin Krone's post.

And the very best to all of SW's employees for a happy and safe holiday. I like the value proposition you afford and will fly with you wherever possible. But, someone needs to check the website functionality. I tried to change a flight and the system couldn't find me/it. Then, I tried to see what was in my account through account-login and only my past flights were shown; none of my future ones. I had to call customer service to change a flight (this is a first for me). I'm a bit concerned that when I try to check-in online and get my boarding pass, the system won't find me again. What gives?

Happy early Thanksgiving to my friends at Southwest! God bless you all. 🙂 So, Brian, are you making anything with candy corn in it for the holiday? :) Here's a joke: What did one chip say to the other? Let's go for a dip! Ha, ha! Chips & dip-get it? I made that up by my very own self. SWA LUV! 🙂

Kyla Ebbert is in this month's issue of Playboy. That just proves that she wasn't embarrassed by being asked to adjust her skirt on the SWA flight. She was just using Southwest as a spring board to fortune and fame. She should be ashamed of herself. Hopefully her 15 minutes of fame is just about over. I'm sick of seeing her butter face all over tv and magazines. (her body is great, but her face....)

Leah, Instead of candied yams, Brian is making candied corn! I think he is going to dress up as Casey Jones and serve dinner on a murder mystery train. The Orient Express ;-) No I have not read that book, Why? Ding! boy joe!

Hmm, Ding! boy! That sounds good. Maybe Blog Boy will share with us! :) Thought for the day: Since there's a Days Inn motel, why is there not a Night's Out? SWA LUV! 🙂

To Brian and ALL of the Blog Team, One of the things that I have to be thankful for at Thanksgiving this year is each one of you! (I would've said "all y'all", but it might have confused the readers outside of Texas...LOL) It has been a blessing and a privilege to be such a part of your lives in the last year and to truly feel the LUV from so many wonderful friends at Southwest. Our Pastor is currently preaching a sermon series called ThanksLiving, and he has been talking about living with a feeling of thankfulness every day for all that we have been given. As y'all know, and now the rest of the blog readers will know, this will be a particularly difficult Thanksgiving for me after my Mom's death a few weeks ago. The thought of sitting down at our table without her makes me cry, but at the same time, I give thanks for all of the years that we did get to sit and share a meal at Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays and just regular days on the calendar that had no greater significance than the fact that we were together. My extended family at Southwest has gone above and beyond to show me an extraordinary amount of LUV, especially during my unemployment and my Mom's failing health, and I would be sadly remiss if I failed to say again publicly what I've tried to express privately to each of you. I wish that the folks who are so critical of Southwest as a company could know Southwest as a huge group of people who go out of their way constantly to share a bit of their lives and their hearts with others. For thirty years, I knew Southwest as a great provider of transportation. For the last six, I've gotten to know that Southwest is really just a place where a lot of wonderful people work and LUV others. To each of you who has reached out to me, THANK YOU!!! This year, there will be one less person sitting at my dinner table on Thursday, but there will be many awesome Southwest friends that I'll be giving thanks for in my heart. I hope that all of you have a very blessed time this holiday! Best wishes from someone who is proud to call himself External Blog Boy, but even more proud to call himself your friend, Kim 🙂

I have flown four routes during the last two weeks with the new boarding system, and I luv it. No wasting time waiting in line. I can sit and work, find a quite spot to return phone calls, or catch a late lunch. I am a business traveler and usually fly two round trips per month. I prefer the Midway airport location to O'Hare, but I have never liked the old boarding system. Cheers to Southwest for respecting the time of their customers.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Wishing you all a safe, fun holiday! Amid all of the turkey preparation stress, don't forget to stop and remember all you have to be thankful for. It works for me! Nikki

I got one of those funny, forwarded emails about things said in flight (see below). This reminded me of a SWA flight I took a few years ago. I was traveling from Phoenix to, I think, San Diego. It was a very bumpy, scary flight. As we approached the landing, the flight attendant started singing a song to the tune of the Marine Corps Hymn (Ã

Here's a Nebraska Big Red thank you to the baggage staffing working on Thanksgiving Day. From Omaha to Las Vegas to San Francisco, my precious family artwork was handled with care. Packaged in double boxes overall about 3 feet by 18 inches by 5 inches, was a wooden crucifix carved by an uncle in about 1960. The most recent owner died a week before Thanksgiving, drawing me from California to the funeral out on the Nebraska prairie. We all know that bubble wrap, cardboard and 'fragile' stickers depend on the staff handling them in the baggage areas. The tiny fingers and dry wood were all whole upon arrival in California. Thank you again. Job well done. An infrequent flier. Diane C

I had a great Thanksgiving, too! 🙂 Two things I'm definitely thankful for are Southwest Airlines & my friends who work for this fun LUVing airline! Thanks for sharing your story, Diane! Thought for the day: Why is it called a corn dog when it's not made out of corn? :) SWA LUV!

I'll try this again since Brian forgot to feed the spamburglar before he left and it ate this prior post three times. Jeramy, Kim is celebrating another Longhorn loss ;-P Yes,UM lost to OSU again. Ding! boy Joe!

Yes, me too, Blog Boy! 🙂 I'm hungry now, but I'll eat soon; I hope I don't die of starvation! So, Blog Boy-what did you do Thanksgiving? I ate at the Delta Cafe, next door to my apartment complex! Yummmm. It was so good. I'd have rather eaten at the Southwest Cafe, but since there's no such thing, I settled for the Delta. Ha, ha, ha. :) Thought for the day: Why is it called candy corn when it's not made out of corn, or shaped like it? 🙂 Maybe there's corn syrup in it. I should research this so I don't lose sleep! :) SWA LUV!

I'm posting here since Southwest apparently doesn't allow customers to email them. This is a problem for any modern day business, particularly one that wants both positive and negative customer feedback. It is really not worth my time & money to snail-mail a compliment to someone. However, I did want to say that on a recent flight, I was delighted that they held the plane for 10 minutes so that transferring passengerÃ

Hi Katherine, Thanks for sharing your compliment, and I will make sure that the right folks see it. As to e-mail, I did visit the link you gave us, and to be honest, they are using an old response from us. We are painfully aware that many Customers prefer to use e-mail to contact us, and we are working on providing this as quickly as possible. We have several technology issues to solve first (the issue is more complext than just getting an e-mail box and switching it on), but we are working very hard on those. I can't give you a firm timetable, but I can tell you this is a priority. Brian

In the meantime, you can always feel free to e-mail Brian directly. His e-mail address is: brian@CandyCornAddictsAnonymous.com Good luck in getting a response from him, though, as the last time I saw his keyboard, it was all sticky and had little fragments of candy corn wedged alongside several of the keys. You're right, Ding! Boy Joe. It's also at TUL, STL, MCO, MCI, CMH, PDX, & 56 other cities. :) Joke for the day: What did one sewing machine say to the other? This is sew (so) much fun! Ha, ha, ha, ha! I made that up by my very own self! :) SWA LUV! 🙂

On Southwest and email... Be careful what you wish for. Once Southwest starts taking Customer communications via email, two things will happen: 1. The volume of incoming communications will skyrocket, since there's almost no thought required to send a quick email. 2. The "quality" of those same communications will drop. Lots of "you suck" or other non-actionable complaints, missing key information like flight numbers, etc. Once that happens, there's no way Southwest will be able to handle those inbound letters with the same level of attention and detail they do today. It will just not be cost effective. They will have to resort to form letters, auto responders, and other unsavory tactics to keep up. More mistakes will be made. If you don't believe it, try emailing another airline, or even a big tech company like Amazon, and let me know how that goes for you. So, you'll get your email, and it will work just like email support works for every other sizable company. Congrats.

To the Southwest Team....thanks for the great service and prompt flights this thanksgiving. I reached St. Louis, MO 25 minutes earlier on thanksgiving day! I am much impressed with the service and more importantly, for the SW team to accomodate all holiday travellers.

We (two seniors) travelled from San Jose to San Diego on Nov. 18th. We were going to spend thanksgiving wih our family. Our flight was on time, our flight was smooth as silk, our landing was perfect and our baggage (including my husbands precious golf bag) was handled efficiently. Our return journey on the 26th Nov. was also perfect in every way. So, lets hear it for South West, Hip, Hip, Hooray!! A great job all around. M. Cairns..
