In celebration of Father’s Day, Southwest Captain John Freed and his dad, Bob Freed, recently journeyed together from Houston to Washington D.C. on an Honor Flight.

Honor Flight is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing veterans with honor and closure by helping transport them to visit the memorials dedicated to the service and sacrifices of our armed forces. Honor Flight has been one of Southwest’s beloved military partners since 2009 and a Points for a Purpose partner since 2015.

John and his Dad are both U.S. Air Force Veterans which helped make this trip extra special for them both. Lt. Col John “Dingo” Freed supported combat missions in Afghanistan and Iraq. Staff Sergeant Bob “Spider” Freed served in Thailand, Philippines, and Okinawa, Japan during the Vietnam War.

As the official airline of the Honor Flight Network, Southwest has had the privilege of transporting thousands of veterans to Washington D.C. for trips just like this one, and it is always an honor for us to play a role in celebrating these deserving servicemen and women.

Happy Father’s Day and thank you to all who have served!
