Journey to Cameroon

Southwest Customer Jenny Sanborn recently shared this story of how a Southwest Airlines Employee helped get a trip to West Africa started on the right foot:

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

Our 15,000 mile journey began with a single step.   That step was made possible by Gene, a Southwest Airlines Sky Cap at the Albuquerque International Sunport.

We were beginning our trip from Albuquerque and were headed to Cameroon in West Africa.  We had a long journey ahead of us.  We also had some very special things we were bringing.  We had packed 18 pairs of crutches, canes, medical equipment and supplies in our checked bags and we needed to deliver them to poor villagers with disabilities living in marginalized communities in the equatorial rainforest.

It seemed like an impossible task.  But Gene made the impossible possible.

Gene's professionalism, courteousness, and unflappable sense of humor put as at ease immediately and gave us hope that we COULD make the journey and deliver our precious cargo.

Because of that first step, we were able to deliver all of the medical supplies and equipment to poor villagers with disabilities.  We were able to give the gift of freedom, mobility and independence.

Thank you to Gene and to the entire team at Southwest Airlines.
