Leslie Powell's Mid-Flight Serenade

My first vivid memory of Southwest was when I was nine years old. The Flight Attendant heard me singing and asked me to sing ‘You Gotta Have Heart’ over the loud speaker. She took the time to make me feel so special.

Flash forward 15 years later (a couple weeks ago)... I walked onto a Southwest airplane thinking SWA.JPGI might close my eyes and fall asleep but Jules, the spunky flight attendant, had something else in mind. She saw my guitar and asked me to entertain the plane, so I busted it out mid-flight and played an airplane show. It was an absolute blast and reminded me about the beauty of spontaneity and of my love for flying on Southwest Airlines.

I am a native Texas songwriter and artist based out of Nashville, TN. I would consider myself one of the most fortunate people in the world because I get to sing and write music for a living and I get to fly Southwest.

A couple months ago, I was on a flight to Nashville returning from playing a show in Texas. We took off and my mind began to wander. Looking down, the world seemed as if it were at my fingertips. From that altitude, the impossible seemed possible and dreams seemed achievable. There's nothing like the feeling of freedom you get as you're flying above the rest of the world. I got inspired and I started writing a song titled '37,000 Feet' that I finished in Nashville with two of my buddies the next day. It has become one of my favorite songs because I know that anything IS possible.

Southwest Airlines employees help make dreams come true and they have an insane amount of fun in the process. I’m a loyal customer and proud supporter.  I LUV SWA.
