1998: (Nov. 26) Southwest’s first transcontinental flight traveled roundtrip between Oakland and Baltimore. This one-day flight experiment was conducted to formally evaluate Southwest’s operations on longhaul flights. Each Customer onboard completed a survey, and the results were overwhelmingly positive. To celebrate the landmark Thanksgiving Day flights, each Customer was given a choice between a smoked turkey or a bottle of Wild Turkey.


1967: (Nov. 27) With $500,000 in the bank, Southwest founder, Herb Kelleher, files the application with the Texas Aeronautics Commission (TAC) to serve Dallas Love Field, Houston Intercontinental, and San Antonio.  


1988: (Nov. 29) Southwest officially opens its Houston Hobby Maintenance Base.
