HELLO, PALMETTO STATE!  We’re Southwest Airlines—and we’re coming to serve you beginning on March 13, 2011!  We’ll begin operations at our 70th and 71st airports, Greenville/Spartanburg (GSP) and Charleston (CHS), with seven weekday departures from each airport.  At GSP, we’ll be flying  one nonstop roundtrip to Nashville, two to Baltimore/Washington, one to Houston Hobby, one to Orlando, and two to Chicago Midway.  At CHS, we’re starting with one roundtrip to Nashville, three to Baltimore/Washington, two to Chicago Midway, and one to Houston.  Including  direct and connecting service, We’re going to be offering  service between Charleston and 65 Southwest cities, and between Greenville/Spartanburg and 68 SWA airports!

We’re positive our two newest destinations are going to be a big hit.  If you’re going to S.C., it’s got a GREAT business environment.  The scenery is amazing, from the beaches of the Low Country to the Piedmont hills Upstate.  Food?  Unique and fantastic.  Famous Carolina Barbeque and Low Country seafood will keep you coming back for more.  And what are the folks in South Carolina going to LUV about Southwest Airlines?  LOTS.  Full-sized jets—and only full-sized jets  (Boeing all the way, friends!).  Low fares and great value (three words: BAGS FLY FREE!).  And, most of all, they’re going to LUV the People of Southwest Airlines—with smiles as big as Texas.

You’ll find all of our schedules, as well as some AWESOME introductory fares, available at southwest.com.  One new Southwest state, and two new Southwest airports.   Both Greenville/Spartanburg and Charleston will be great additions to our network.  But no matter which one you’re going to use, come fly Southwest in the Southeast.  Welcome to the Southwest Family, South Carolina!

I'm excited you are going into South Carolina - I can finally visit my brother and his family without taking out a loan for the trip. One thing though - the link to www.southwest.com/southcarolina doesn't work. It generates a message that the page doesn't exist. I Love SW!

We have been waiting for this for years! We live in Vegas and are committed SW customers! We only fly SW when we can. All of our family lives in SC. Prior to March 2011 we have been booking flights with other airlines to make the trips back home to see our families during the holidays in SC. Every time we fly on a different carrier we always say, I wish we were on SW! Other carriers are horrible with crediting your miles, which never add up to enough to get a free flight, they don’t have open seating, and they definitely don’t let bags fly for free! SW thank you so much for offering flights to SC! We are so excited! Especially the Charleston fights, what an amazing city! Now we can vacation for a couple of days before heading home!

Gee can I be a schedule planner? When southwest announced serving the two I plotted what the service would be. My only error was I pegged two flights to Nashville and one to Orlando from Charleston – otherwise I was right on. Maybe I should publicize my EWR picks so the is a record of them 18 departures? – 5 BWI, 5 MDW, 2 DEN, 2 STL, 2 IAD, 1 LAS, 1 PHX

OK....I have to ask this question. When are you gonna go back and take a look at XNA (Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport)? It seems perfect for SWA - a high fare market where you could offer flights and save people money. And what better place than in the backyard of Wal-Mart? Thanks.

need to compete with united airlines at Dulles airport and get more gates add more routes there prices at Dulles are too HIGH we need to give them more competition

I believe the airline has made a huge mistake by not adding Boston to the list of non-stop flights to Charleston. You would have been the first carrier to do so and would have dominated the market and opened up all of New England to this region. I don't live there, don't have family there but know people in cold weather climates want to be here. Thus the demand for non-stop from NYC, Chicago, etc. Very dissappointing.

I know beggars can't be choosers, and overall, I'm happy with the Southwest announcement. I do wish GSP was getting a 3rd BWI flight right from the start. This will be my most used connection airport, by far, and it's just not feasible to leave at 6:30am or 7:20pm. Especially not with prices like $297 roundtrip to Pittsburgh, or $296 to Buffalo. Those flight times also severely limit our connection possibilities through BWI. Charleston got a 3rd daily flight to BWI, which creates far more sensible flight times, and results in about $30 cheaper roundtrip airfare to either PIT or BUF. Just two examples of how the Upstate would benefit from that one extra departure.

Yay! Although I wish you guys could somehow get space at DCA - GSP to DCA would rock my world!

The new service sounds great but I think you also had added a Charleston to Orlando non-stop flight.

Hi Bill, Dan and Pete (Brian and Laurel too!!) The announcement of South Carolina service is an exciting time at SouthWest Airlines. As you know, I'm the eager one especially waiting on the announcement for Newark (EWR) to come. While we talked a bit over the last several days, let me ask some questions here so that I'm on the right track to fly to Newark next year (2011). Is service at EWR from Concourse A? What will the ticket counter hours at EWR be? What hours will be available through the EWR Southwest Airlines Baggage Services Office? As far as schedules are concerned, surprise me. Show me what you have from Sacramento (SMF) when the Newark announcement(s) start to come alive. I look forward to blog again either with the Newark announcement(s) or with the schedule opening still proposed for Thursday 18 November 2010. Oh, by the way, before I go, I noticed on the Interactive Route Map that the state of South Carolina is still colored gray despite that GSP and CHS are now plotted on the map in yellow with black lettering. Would someone that works on the award winning SouthWest Airlines Website take a look at the coloring that South Carolina has as of 11:15 P.M. Central Time on October 20th, and see if it can be changed from gray to light brown. Thank you so much. Sincerely, Mike Barnbaum in Sacramento, California

Wow - very sad to see that Boston is not on the nonstop destination list from GSP. Hard to believe since: 1. Southwest is working hard to expand Boston/Logan Airport routes 2. Flow of college students between cities (esp Clemson and Boston College in the ACC) 3. Greenville area continuing to expand access to the venture community and human capital in the Boston area 4. Attractiveness of Charleston and Greenvile as vacation destinations for Northeasterners 5. Greenville Drive is a minor league franchise for Boston Red Sox! What say you Southwest? Please consider expanding your service out of Greenville to Boston. There are two people in our small office who have family in the Greenville area, so we can guarantee quite a few sold seats ourselves! Thank you.

So happy to know you are flying to Charleston...would be even more exciting if there was a direct flight to Columbus, Oh. I would fly several times a year if that were the case. If there is a list of cities that could be next for direct flights please add Columbus to the list.

We're so happy about this. The flights to GSP are very expensive. This will give Delta and alike some competition. WHOA!!!

Please ADD Columbia South Carolina. It makes no sense to fly over South Carolina's capital.

Love your airline. We live in Manning,SC and just had to drive up to RDU to take a flight to Boston (Connecting to British Air) Charleston will save us abi=out a 3 hour drive to fly SW. Just watched your TV ad's about no FEE for changes (Great) However on our return trip from Boston we arrived early for our flight back to RDU via Phila. We arrived at the gate just as an earlier flight from Boston to Phila was boarding . I inquired about space on the earlier flight and was told there was plenty of room. However the agent said he would have to charge us a "CHANGE FEE". We declined and waited about 2-3 hours for our scheduled flight to Phila. I am confused? Was the gate agent mis-informed on your policies or what?? PS Our flight to Heathrow on BA was a comedy of errors they need to have somebody from SOUTHWEST tell them how to run an AIRLINE. Glad your now serving The Palmetto State. Welcome aboard. Norm
