Southwest Airlines Reports November Traffic
DALLAS, Dec. 2 -- Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) announced today that the Company flew 5.3 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in November 2008, an 8.3 percent decrease from the 5.7 billion RPMs flown in November 2007. Available seat miles (ASMs) were essentially flat at 8.3 billion for November 2007 and November 2008. The load factor for the month was 63.2 percent, compared to 69.3 percent for the same period last year.
For the eleven months ended November 30, 2008, Southwest flew 67.7 billion RPMs, compared to the 66.6 billion RPMs recorded for the same period of 2007, an increase of 1.7 percent. Available seat miles increased 4.1 percent to 95.0 billion from the 2007 level of 91.2 billion. The year-to-date load factor was 71.3 percent, compared to 73.0 percent for the same period last year.
