Who can remember the last time Southwest offered fare sales starting at $25? I can, but I have to admit, I was still in grade school. Depending on the length of travel, you can fly for $25/$50/$75/$100 one way starting...now!

These crazy cheap fares are available for purchase through 11:59 pm PST Oct. 29, 2009, for travel between Dec. 2, 2009, and Dec. 16, 2009, or travel between Jan. 5, 2010, and Feb. 10, 2010.

Customers can purchase one-way tickets for $25, $50, $75, or $100 based on length of travel. For travel up to 375 miles, fares are $25 one-way. For travel between 375 and 549 miles, fares are $50 one-way. For travel between 550 and 999 miles, fares are $75 one-way. For travel more than 1000 miles, fares are $100 one-way.

With prices this low, you should invent a reason to go. Whether it’s a vacation from your vacation or a last-minute trip to the beach before school starts again, take advantage of these special fares, visit southwest.com.

Don’t forget to bring your two (free) bags along as well!

Lindsey, I am as excited as anyone about your sale. That said, you guys simply MUST do something about the web site. Today, most probably because of heavy traffic, it is in full meltdown. This also happens every time the new schedule comes out. It is simply unacceptable when a customer would like to purchase your product and simply cannot. I do all my flying on SWA. Probably 10-15 roundtrips per year personally with an equal number for my wife. In attempting to book today (and its not the first time), I've simply gotten frustrated enough that I'll quit fo awhile. There is absolutely no way you guys can believe that's an acceptable answer. Frankly in my mind it becomes job #1. If I can't purchase your product, you guys can't make any money. Enough of the rant. Please make sure the bosses know its an issue. And LUV to you all.

The popularity of our 72-hour fare sale is generating a lot of interest in southwest.com. The web experience might be slower than usual. All hands are on deck! Thanks for your patience 🙂

My family would love to be able to take advantage of this great deal. Unfortunately, it's not offered during the holidays. We always fly with SWA @ Christmas. What's going on?

It would look like the Southwest website is in complete meltdown. Booking of flights is completely locked out. Nice work

Does anyone know the best way to get from BWI to the cruise ship port?

Lindsey, I respect and appreciate your response. Candidly, I've had to work quite hard today to try to make several flight arrangements. To the extent that "fare buckets" have been lost by folks who simply could not take the time, I believe that the right thing to do would be to open them up wider and allow more seats on each flight at the special discount price. It is not your customer's fault that your systems weren't ready for the traffic. I've read that an upgrade to the web site is in the works. Good. And I can appreciate that it has been "All hands on Deck!" today. Someone should pass out cold ones at the end of the day to you guys. I'll bet Gary's instructions are to grab a yellow pad of paper, answer the freakin' phone personally if you have to, write down the necessary flight itinerary and CC#, and then take the next call. (I know.... he nods as he reads this.) There is only one way to run a business. Do it right every time by taking personal responsibility. You guys have my e-mail and can probably look up my Rapid Rewards account. If anyone ever wants to chat, I'm here.....

Heads up that you guys might have a Session crossing problem on the web servers. I was attempting to edit my itinerary, signed in as myself, and I got the Reconciliation page for a different passenger and flight. I closed my browser immediately, but it makes me nervous that the web meltdown is allowing some cross-session activity as that is a total disaster, not to mention very serious security issue. I would rather miss a sale than login and allow someone else access to my web server Session variables (ie payment, etc).

I am wondering where we might find a list of those "select destinations" to which this 72 hour sale applies. Anyone know?

Not only can you not book flights but you cannot change flights. I buy Business class because I have to change my flights a lot and it won’t let me do that either.. WORST WEB SITE EVER!!!!! Next to the phone reservations agents!

Was fortunate to score some trips earlier today....probably before the west coast crowd learned of the fabulous offer. However, I have been unable to book an award trip for over an hour now. The system response is "this service is temporarily unavailable" along with the obligatory apology. Come on guys.

I noticed some of the issues in the early afternoon as well, but was able to book my $25 flight. Anyhow, to put a little perspective on it from a customer that's perhaps a little more forgiving... Yes, I would have liked to book at when I tried at 1pm, but I tried a little later, and it worked fine. You should beef up the website. But, I wasn't any more surprised about the whole thing than I am when they throw an insane sale at a department store. Big lines at the store then, and a little more waiting for a once-in-a-blue-moon "blowout". Thanks for my flight that cost me the same as just the baggage fee on another airline!

To the person that said SWA has the worst reservations agents ever SHAME ON YOU I am one of those agents and we work hard everyday trying to help our passengers. We are having the same issues as you are and trying very hard to work through them even though almost everytime we answer the phone we are getting yelled and cussed out because of the long wait times or the online issues. SWA is trying very hard to work out the issues with the system and yelling and cussing at us will not make it happen any faster! Please be patient AND NICE we are answering the phones as fast as we can and doing all we can to help all our passengers with all the resources we have at hand.

Your new website is awful!! I think you should either get your old site back or hire new programmers to get a site that actually works. Whats going on guys? I want my old Southwest back.

I want to say that as a new Customer Service Representative in training here at Southwest, I appreciate how patient all of you have been with the fare sale! Our training class, like the rest of our coworkers, have been inundated with calls regarding the website problems, weather, and now one of the best fare sales ever but you have all been so kind and understanding! We definitely have the best customers at Southwest Airlines and I hope you all get to book those trips with the awesome fares and if you have any issues, we look forward to helping you out here in the call centers! What a great sale--the first day was rough with the website overload but I've found everything running well when making many bookings on days 2 and 3 of this sale--thanks for getting everything running smoothly.

This advertisement is very misleading! My flight was priced at over $500.00 ! That is a far cry from $25.00 & $50.00 & $69.00 flights! (and yes, SWA flies to both airports!) ... not good business!
