With more than 190 million acres of public lands, the National Forests throughout the United States provides clean air and water, wildlife habitat, and beautiful scenery – and are incredible places to explore!

At Southwest Airlines, showing our Heart for the Planet is important to us. We are proud to partner with the National Forest Foundation (NFF) to celebrate National Forest Week, July 11-17.

The National Forest Foundation (NFF) is the only national conservation organization solely dedicated to restoration and community engagement on our National Forests and Grasslands. The NFF provides millions of dollars in grants to local conservation organizations, plants millions of trees, provides support, technical assistance, and facilitation for collaborative efforts that tackle the challenges facing these public lands, and connects millions of Americans to these landscapes every year.

Through our partnership, Southwest’s support has provided complimentary travel for NFF staff to meet with partners, donors, and the U.S. Forest Service. The support has also provided travel scholarships for participants to attend workshops on improving efforts for National Forests and Grasslands. In addition, last year, to celebrate Earth Day and our 50th Anniversary, Southwest Airlines partnered with the National Forest Foundation to plant 50,000 trees on sites in California, Georgia, and Oregon.

This year, NFF’s theme for National Forest Week is ‘See Your Somewhere’ – and Southwest wants to help you see your somewhere!

Did you know Southwest serves cities near a number of National Forests? Take a look at a few highlighted below and see which one you want to travel to next!

Palm Springs International Airport (PSP)

From the arid deserts to the tallest alpine mountains in Southern California, the San Bernardino National Forest is just a short drive away from Palm Springs. It is a top destination for people escaping the urban grind for a peaceful retreat in nature. Commune with nature where the Mojave and Colorado deserts converge. Trek to Joshua Tree National Park for birding, biking, and stellar stargazing under the clear night sky.
