The new college football season is here, the new college football season is here!

How could I have let this one slip? It's college football season folks! Where's the smack talk? No random college football comments on any of the posts yet? Should USC be number 1? What about Florida? Can they do it again? Is West Virginia for real? Is anyone going to a game? I'm headed to Madison, Wisconsin to watch the Badgers take on Michigan in November. Can't wait to go back and get a blueberry muffin from Mickey's Dairy Bar, swing by the Union and get some chocolate milk, and top everything else off with sauerkraut. Of course the best is watching a game at Camp Randall. How can anyone argue it's not the best time of year?

You are heading to Madison, Wisconsin which brings me to the point that the nearest airport that SWA flys to is Chicago's Midway. Over 2 hour drive. Why doesn't SWA fly to more midwestern cities? It seems they are lacking their presence in the Midwest. I always have to fly other airlines when flying to the midwest. (Usually ones I hate.) It would be nice to that area. I think Minneapolis was the 7th busiest airport in the U.S. last year and I would think SWA would be a good fit in the midwest.

Of course West Virginia is for real. No trash talk, or you might end up with a burning couch in front of HDQ. ;) As for whether this is the best time of year, I agree, but for a different reason. We're now in pumpkin-flavored everything season. 😄

I agree with SWA in Wisconsin also. We used to live near Madison and now live in Kansas near MCI. I fly Midwest more than Southwest because of the drive from MDW to MKE. When in the name of God is SWA going to go into MKE? It would do well against Midwest! On Wisconsin!

I have to agree. As a Purdue alum, there is nothing like Big Ten football. Go Boilers.....

Sadly, I have no grounds for "smack" talk being a Michigan fan. Refusing to back that other Big 10 school in state, my husband and I are going to cheer for the Badgers this season.....what's up with the red pants this year?? I'm also cheering for whatever team is playing Tennessee on any given week. 🙂

Go Dawgs!! Hope you are having some great Football Chic talk this season. I have not found a football chic group here in the lovely Ruston, LA. Don't forget to show the La Tech Dawgs a little love. And Jill, just for you I will cheer for your guys this week too! Have a great trip!

OF COURSE USC IS #1. They will prove it today when they embarrass Nebraska in front of a national audience on THEIR home field in Lincoln. The Trojans will emerge victorious in ALL of their hard fought battles this year. Including the one in New Orleans for the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. JD Booty, Joe Mcknight and Patrick turner are the REAL DEAL on offense. Their defense is better than most defenses that play on Sunday. The song they will be singing as they march on to victory is: FIGHT ON FOR OL' SC OUR MEN FIGHT ON TO VICTORY OUR ALMA MAITRE DEAR LOOKS UP TO YOU! FIGHT ON AND WIN FOR OL' SC FIGHT ON TO VICTORY FIGHT ON!!! Go SC. Fight On -Trojan Blog Boy

Looks like my prediciton was correct.... USC 49 Nebraska 31 (and 21 of the huskers' points were scored against our 2nd string defense in garbage time) That was a very convincing win for the best team in the nation in a very hostile environment against a very talented opponent. I like our chances to go undefeated this year. The SC O-line and Stafon Johnson were especially impressive. Oh yeah, un-ranked Utah crushed #11 UCLA. Gotta love that!!! Fight on!

Whats up with the BCS this week? OU moving DOWN to #4 after embarassing their first three opponents by a total score of 174 - 23?? And UT (bleh) stays at #7 after BARELY squeaking by UCF, and not really soundly defeating any of their previous opponents? A travesty!! BOOMER SOONER

Hi Leah! I am actually a TX boy originally and went somewhere other than OU, but I never liked UT and sort of came to like OU by association (couple of close friends went there, and I travelled there a couple times and loved the atmosphere). I just like giving my teammates here at SWA who are UT grads a hard time and can't wait till Oct. 6th!

Josh, We're just saving ourselves from a lot of extra work. It's called optimizing your efforts. Why bother to win by 30 or 40 points when you can win by just a few? Besides, as gentlemen, we're trying to not embarrass our weaker opponents too much. A win is a win, and we don't need to rub it in their faces. Plus, by appearing to be weak and barely capable of playing the game, we'll lull your Sooners into a false sense of security and overconfidence so that when you come to OUR State Fair in a few weeks, we will be able to easily crush you and send you back across the Red River with one more game in the loss column for OU in our 107-year-old rivalry! Hook 'em Horns, Kim Burnt Orange Blog Boy P. S. Hey Jeramy, how ya been? Anything been happenin' with that Unsuccessful Silly College that you root for? 🙂

KIM: If your smelly-belly 'Horns show up appearing weak and incapable, it'll be because they are. Can hardly wait for the Sooners to lower the Boomers on your stump-broke steers.

Kim- I was patiently waiting for a T-sip to post ;-) Oh, how I cannot wait until October 6th, when all the UT fans who for the past two years have been bragging that you guys beat us, and disregarding the previous 5 consecutive losses as "the past", will taste defeat. Then, don't try to bring up that you guys beat us the previous two years - after all it is the past. And, I actually rooted for UT (because they are Big 12) to pull it out down there playing against a nationally ranked...no wait...a tough division I....no wait....umm, well just the University of Central Florida so that they could stay undefeated and ranked until that first weekend in October. And, the thought that put a smile on my face the most was thinking of the Longhorns going into the locker room and breathing a sigh of relief, only to catch ESPN and realize that OU is looming ahead after utterly destroying another team. Oh, the smile was HUGE. Just as I look forward to the OU group beating the UT group again in the plane pull this year, its time for the football game to follow suit!!

Hey Jeramy, Be careful when you try to step on us and crush us like a bug...the ends of those long horns are sharp. I do have to admit that you and your Useless Sophomore Children have been so hospitable to us each time we've visited lately, and we sure appreciate you sending us home with such nice memories! Hey Josh, You said you were born in THIS state and yet you've got Sooner trash comin' outta your mouth? Wasn't Benedict Arnold given a first hand demonstration of the inelasticity of rope for similar behavior? But, that's okay, you Okies Employees go ahead and strain yourself against the Teasipper Employees and show us that you're good at pulling 737s around. We'll LET you win just like we do on the football field from time to time. Hey Jerry, "Smelly-belly"??? You been hangin' around underneath Bevo? That's a dangerous place to be when he decides to lay down. Besides, you ever try to get a huge steer into a shower and then to roll on some deodorant on him? Kim Longhorn Blog Boy 🙂

Kimmy: isn't Bevo, like you, a girl? Besides, it's udder nonsense for you to even wish that the girly men of Texas might make a game of it this year.
Josh10
Explorer C
Kim- Well, it seems either IE didn't cooperate or the mods didn't want to approve my post (as witty as it was), so I will have to do another one. Yes, Benedict Arnold did meet the business end of a rope for being thought of as a traitor, but historically the list of people who met an untimely demise for biting off more than they could chew due to arrogance and pride is much, much longer. As they say, pride does cometh before a fall, so I would be cautious. Many, many of my UT chums won't even care to make a wager on the game, so I guess I will have to pay for my own keg for the shootout this year. Ah, and thank you for "letting" us win the plane pull for the last few years, it is always such a pleasure to do so right in front of UTs cheer squad and Bevo, just as it has been to win 5 of the last 7 shootouts - but only because you LET us. Enjoy the game, I know I will!

And for the two of you, being in the "large 12" is not a "big" honor. The only thing worst would be the Big 10 (sorry Jill). Now if you wanna talk Pac 12 or SEC, then you are talking football. I'm surprised no Tiger fans have taken Jeramy on yet! In a recent poll, 73% of the United States thought LSU deserved the number one spot. The 27% that didn't? California, Oregon and Washington. Geaux Tigers...the REAL number one 🙂

Kim- Ah, so you concede the floor yet get one more jab in. I love the tenacity! And, alas, sorry to let you know that the plane pull is before the football game. It does however present a great opportunity to work up an appetite...I prefer steak! Kelli- Although I do have an internal hate towards LSU (despite experiencing one of the best tailgating events at a college football game ever in Baton Rouge), not only for readily beating OU a couple years ago but for personal reasons, I have to admit I do believe LSU to currently be the #1 team in the country. USC, while a good team, isn't what they were a couple years ago and is only ranked #1 because of the hype.
Jeramy_Brian1
Adventurer B
Kelli, It doesen't matter who the fans think is #1. They aren't the experts. LSU can think they are #1 now but USC will put them in their place when they beat them in Nawlins. I'm sure most of the country thought OU was the better team 3 years ago but SC beat them 55-19 to win their 2nd championship in a row. Josh, USC was obviously the best team in that game, the "horns" were lucky to have so many calls go their way. Vince Young threw a td pass from his knees that shouldn't have counted and texas fumbled the ball in the 4th qtr but they called it an incomplete pass. Texas couldn't have won that game without the help of the officiating crew. Brian, Cal is a good team but I'm glad the game isn't until November. By then, a lot of the guys will be back from their injuries and the freshman players will be better. Oregon and ASU on the road might be a bit of a challenge too... Fight On!!

My last post didn't get up there...hmm... Well, Jeramy, your #2 USC team just proved they are vulnerable against Washington as well last weekend. So, be careful my friend. Kim - FYI, UT won the plane pull so congrats on that. UT is now 1-4 in plane pulls. Line is OU by 11. Let's get it on!

Josh, SC would've had a lot easier time with U-dub if the starting center and right tackle weren't injured in the 1st qtr. That threw off the offensive rhythm for the rest of the game. They still deserve to be #1 because they overcame a bunch of penalties and turnovers to beat a tough team on the road. Games like that are what build confidence for the tough games at the end of the season when most of the injured players will be back. The big difference between LSU and USC is that LSU gets pretty much all of their tough games at home (against florida, auburn and south carolina.) USC plays a ton of tough games on the road (at nebraska, at oregon, at cal and at asu) USC by far has the toughest schedule. If they go undefeated they deserve to play for the national championship. I like their chances because their defense is the best in the nation and the O-line opens up huge holes for the tailbacks. USC vs LSU will be a great championship game but USC will win 28-21. Fight On!!!

Jeramy/Kim Well, it looks like I am the only one with any reason to celebrate today, as my OU Sooners came into town and beat UT. It was a great game, and I look forward to the next couple of years of them as wel, as OU has a great team and a lot of key players are only freshman. And, Jeramy, I have to first disagree with your last post that USC has the toughest schedule. The SEC is by far the toughest conference in football, with any one of those teams able to beat just about any team in the country on any given Saturday. But, it doesn't matter anymore, as USC lost to Stanford. Wait, that can't be right can it......Stanford!?.....
